When I seen this thread I said DAMN pepshrimp lol man I should have rescaped mine earlier I have been planning on doing 2 pillars. My inspiration is from a bonzai tree as I am fasinated by oriental culture. Good job its gonna be nice for sure! Keep posting pics.
Thanks for the compliments Jim! I just added a few corals and the fish shy fish. I am battling some hair/bubble algae, since the rock I used (it was free) had horrible algae on it. Should go through the cycle, hopefully my tangs and blenny will clean it up. I will post pics once it looks presentable. I love the pillars and there great for aquascaping and for the fish and having more room.
Finally moved the rest of the rock, corals and fish over. Went thru a bad algae stage, but everything seems to be doing fine now. Sorry about the crappy pic, it was from my phone.
looks great to me
It’s getting there. I am never happy with it though. Need more corals, but I am waiting a few weeks since I just upgraded. Want to take it slow. Thanks for the compliment though.
did u use epoxy to build those up?
and if so im guessing it holds good?
Nice rock pile!
lots of bumps sticking out to hold future corals in prominent postions and still plenty of room for your fishies to swim.
Very Good!
lb84, I used plastic reflector rods as support and put epoxy around the rock and rod, I don’t think that did much though. The right pillar shakes a little bit, but it holds up pretty well.
Ken, thanks, that’s exactly what I wanted. That’s the good thing about pillars, good places for corals and plenty of swimming room.
yeah i was thinking the same as ken, your corals can get ample lighting with that structure…and even shade under the structure if need be
Yeah, it works out great. I have my higher light corals out in the open, and stuff that doesn’t need as much light or I want to spread as much (shrooms, xenia, GSP) in the shade. I have a lot of open room and the top half of the tank is open for SPS.
i have been keeping african cichlids for some time now. a little in the mbuna, but seem to keep coming back to my tangs. currently have a 72 bowfront tang. set up. incl. neo.brichardi, juli. marleri, lamp. leleupi, red fin comprecisseps, tretocephalus, tetracanthus, cyllindricus, and a few others…
and a 35 hex with some fry leftover from a mbuna tank i swapped to salt. some yellow labs, kennyi and lab. exasperatus. ANYONE ELSE???
Had a 36G bowfront taking up some room @ home, so it has become a cichlid tank @ my office. Couple mbuna reds, some rubin reds, a yellow lab, and some (believe it or not) green terrors.
I hadn’t realized there were so many different kinds of cichlids
I keep a 29g with cichlids as well. Of course I don’t recall the specific ones at the moment.
I know I keep and Oscar and a Jack dempsey in there, a kribinsis, and few various africans.
i had a pair of kribinsis that use to spawn like crazy…
i also had a 55gal. full of peacocks that it took me a while to collect, and a couple other african cichlids that supposedly are extinct in the wild…
everything was sold to support my new habit…
Haven’t posted any shots in awhile, I’ve added a few corals, but ever since my FO tank went up, that has been getting my attention and money Here are a few crappy dirty shots, I am hoping to upgrade this year, maybe to my 210g if I can get a bigger FO tank, we’ll see. My reef could use the room!

I am going to be fragging soon, so let me know if anyone is interested in anything. Plan to frag anthelia, keyna tree, mushrooms, huge finger leather, maybe some mushrooms, gsp, zoas, hammers, and frogspawn. Gotta get frag plugs and glue today hopefully.
I would want a peice of the frog spawn… what are the zoas you plan on fragging? and maybe a mushroom as well
your rbta looks awesome
Thanks, the RBTA kept moving on me, and eventually found a koralia >::: so he is recovering but seems to be fine. I think I am going to add him to my 210g, since my clowns don’t touch either RBTA or my huge LTA. My cinnamon clown would love a home though in a tank full of aggressive fish! I am considering fragging the frogspawn, I have 3 colonies of it. I’d like to combine them into one nice one, so we’ll see, my tank is just thrown together right now, kind of a mess. I’ll try and frag a head or two off the spawn. I’m going to prolly build a in tank frag rack this weekend and do all the frags sunday, so they’ll be ready in a week or so I guess.
ok just keep me updated!
