50g SCA Cube Build

Thanks. I’m going to do something similar.

Is it black Hawaiian sand or black play sand? If it’s aragonite I would fully rinse it out and and scrub or kill off the rocks and start over if it’s taking a year to recover and still not there. That is so frustrating trying so hard for so long to get nowhere. I have been there so I feel for you.

Take this time to set up and paint it the way you really want it.

It is the black Hawaiian sand. I’m not gonna even bother reusing it. I’m gonna go back to white sand.

I decided I’m going to just cook the rock for 6-8 weeks rather than bleach it. That should kill off the garbage and still leave me with love rock.

I would take some dead black sand then lol.

I would just rinse it out unless you just don’t like it.

If you want it, it’s yours!

Largest part of the job is done…rock is cooking and fish are in the 24g.

Cooking rock…

Thank you. I will throw a frag of something your way;).

Hope this works out for you.

Sounds good!

What was so bad you had to completely reboot?

Algae that I couldnt get under control wastje biggest issue. I also had issues keeping corals alive after my crash last year. It just never recovered. I think a reboot will make things much better.

I’m even thinking of going with a plenum this time around. I like the look of sand but don’t really want to have to maintain it.

I never really maintain my sand. I just get sand sifting creatures to take care of it.

Hopefully this helps. Sucks to basically start over.

Yeah, I had some and they died. I never replenished them.

It does suck to have to start over but honestly I’m happy about it. The tanks has been a constant source of frustration for quite a while. Sitting next to it al day while I work didn’t help.

Also, as I took stuff down today I realized my stand was coming apart inside! Ack! So much for the idea to paint it. Guess I’m building one!

My firefish died today:(

Nothing appears wrong. I guess the stress of the move must have been too much …

That sucks

Sorry to hear Adam.

AW man, I am very sorry Adam :frowning:

Thanks everyone. I’m really bummed. I have no idea why it died. Other than a tattered tail fin, nothing appears wrong.

I did a post-death freshwater dip and no parasites came off. I noticed it scratching the other day, but it only did it once so I thought nothing of it. I thought maybe gill flukes, but didn’t get any in the dip.

Tank is completely torn down and everything has been sterilized. I’m working on designs to make a new stand. I have some drawings I’m working on and I’ll post those up soon.

I think I’m going to end this thread here and start a new one for the reboot…
