So far just me and Keleigh from the dover area…
well, this will be the first trip i cant make. I have been busy tearing up , stirring up, and filtering all the years of accumulated crud in my tanks and plenum sand beds. no time to be adding new corals. Im cleaning up some old problems with caulerpa verticulatta and just plain old crud messing up my sand and rock. but when that’s cleared out, i should be upgrading the 75 system to a 120RR or better.
Or MAYBE?? a wrap around 90 degree corner room system to take up two walls of the dining room. depends on if i want to make some more, bigger custom plexi tanks. just a wild hair idea i had tonight, looking at what i can do with the space in my dining room. kind of a cascading, lagunal frag system to reef system to fuge to sump, 4-5 tank system minimum.mum…mum…mum…
Something like a variation on what Blane Perun once tried, to capture all the reef zone systems.
i could build plexi tanks, 2 foot wide, of various depths, flowing left to right, up to 10 feet long for the long wall, to butt up to and pour into a 2 x 6 tank on the perpendicular short wall, then overflow down to the lower layer of tanks, fuges, whatever, flowing back right to left back to the sump … Hmmm? an over/under tank/ tray system. just one sump pump for all those tanks. thats a thawt.
but, till then, i have no place for more frags right now. consolidating and salvaging and reorganizing.
sorry to say, I can’t make this one. But I’m sure you will all enjoy this trip to the candy store.
I’m officially a “no”. Sorry guys. I would really have liked to, especially if someone else was driving!
Can’t go down with Icy?
Ok…who is riding down with me?
I think we are going to have a very small trip. From up north I think it only Shawn and I. And in the Dover area Icy and maybe Joe. MAybe shawn and I can head from here to Dover and go in one car with the Dover group?
We are driving a Tarus, so while its not terribly spacious, it can fit a total of 5 people. I’ll have a cooler or two in the trunk for live stock. If its just 2 or three other people do you guys want to just meet here at my house and ride down with us?
wow…thats pretty disappointing. :-("
anyways…im +1 so there will be 3 of us
Yeah… I guess everyone has stuff to do on the weekends in the summer. Im suprised there wasnt more of a turn out though, Dr. Macs is friggen awesome.
I just got a call from Marty and he is coming + 1
Icy can we meet up with you in Dover?
If we leave here with 5 and we can share a ride with you then we will only need 2 car and it should be rather comfortable.

I am not totally surprised because with the higher cost of everything (gas, electricity food etc) it tightens up the budget. We always have lower turnout during the summer months. What really surprised me is then Ken is not coming even for the ride. I guess the temptation would be too great.
I’m saving my Tax Stamps and Green stamps for a new car right now.(anybody old enough to remember them?) My 21 year old Burban is on life support. I’ll be down there this fall if i get a new system set up by then. but tonight I’m still cleaning and filtering crud out of a sand bed, so as i can put my frags back in the system. Much to do.
Have a nice trip and take some pics for the web site.
Dr. Mac’s frag pack is always Awesome!
[color=blue][size=12pt]IT SEEMS A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS GOING DOWN FOR 1 REASON OR ANOTHER. SHAWN CAN’T GO NOW AND HE WAS MY RIDE. I HAVE A BLOOD CLOT IN MY LEG AND CAN’T KEEP MY LEG BENT TO DRIVE THAT FAR.
THIS REALLY KILLS OUR HEAD COUNT.
I THINK WE WILL TRY TO SET THIS TRIP UP AS A GROUP AT ANOTHER TIME.
I WILL SET UP ANOTHER POLL TO FIND A GOOD DATE.
AL
So another time then I guess…
Well I think me and Keleigh are still planning on going. If anyone else wants to go let me know. I’ll be on most of the night and my cell phone will be on. Let me know on here or give me a call at 3three9-two23-six22five. We will probably leave around 9 or so from dover.
Sorry to hear about the Phlebitis Al. Hope your doing alright. I hope Mac will be willing to show us behind the scenes in the future. Its a very rough times for any company involved in reefing especially those that count on local sales even in part. Al did you get my message about the rally to save local stores in Florida.
Ken start a new thread about your ideas for your new system. Just keep in mind with one large system some pests spread fast.
Al did you call Mac?
I emailed Dr Mac yesterday as more people fell off the trip.
I really like going there as it is always an adventure. The behind the scenes tour would have been awesome.
The leg really bums me out. I was still going to go but if I keep it bent that long to drive it would have been totaly numb by the time I git there. I think I am going to check with Delaware express and see what it would cost to have a mini bus take us down for the next trip. Maybe we can use some club funds to help cover part of the costs? If we figure in the cost of the gas for 3 or 4 cars it would probable pay for itself. We could have the first pickup here in Bear and the second in Dover.
AL
I think that is a great idea. The way i see, with the price of gas, if everyone contriubted $20 towards teh cost of the bus it would still be DIRT CHEAP. I mean heck, i was going to give whoever drove $20 anyways. I think at $20 a head/couple it will still be a lot cheaper than it would cost any of us to drive down on our own. Plus, the more that go the cheper it wil be.
I agree 100% with the behind the scenes tour.
Sounds like it was a no go? Well. lots of our group have been heading down on their own the past 6 months. no shortage of support that way. But group trips are always fun. and Dr. Mac has been kind enough to stuff us with PIZZA in appreciation of making group trips. I hope he wasn’t too disapointed.
well right now i my frag system sump is in the tub, full of water and acid, with a pump running. cleaning out the layer of calcite deposits and crud. last step for that system clean up. then put it back, and return the frags to the tanks above. they are in a holding tank now. looking pretty good there , actually. wow, there was a lot of mud in the bottom of that sump. took it out back and hosed all the loose stuff out first. then the acid bath.
