Ha Ha Ha

Yeah I gotta watch what I say when I meant growth I just kind of meant it has gotten larger meaning it is trying to get more light and hopefully rebound. I just didn’t know what other word to use. I guess it got larger works? lol I’m goign to go out later and get a magnifying glass and attempt to get a picture of it… although I might have a magnifying glass in my car with my insect catching equipment (yes I have insect catching equipment in my car, in my field you never know  lol)

The mag. glass is a great idea. I have to do that. My pictures look bad.

Ok the CUC thing. I am new to the hobby too. I got a cleanup crew a month or so into it. I think this is good and bad. First if you do get it this soon you have to expect some snails will die. (I didn’t but you live and learn). Just a newbie. Take it lightly.

Yes I went and I had a little chat with Jon today about the tank and what not and I think we decided it would be safe to add a few Nass snails then watch what happens. We figure since they are so small that it won’t cause a HUGE upset if some die. Then if the tank continues to be stable I’m going to be getting a coral from a friend on the forum who offered me some of his zooanthids which Jon said should be fine.

We shall see.

Icy the picture advice worked amazing! The pictures are actually clear, however the “mushroom” is still a little too tiny but I posted a pic so you can see for yourself.

If you look real hard he is in the nook of the two duster tubes. However he also happens to kind of be the same color. But he does seem to have gotten a little bigger too. But that may just be what I want to think. We will see in a week I guess lol

EDIT: Well after I posted this and it probably was about 15 min. But he expanded again. I got a REALLY nice picture of him too but of course… my camera died and it runs on batteries which, silly me, I left the stuff to charge the batteries in storage. So next time I go to storage I will get some batteries, or I will find some before the day is over lol

Ok I exist again! Thanks for reactivating the account… I will never play with the change e-mail function again! hahaha!

Update on the coral, it has expanded to almost 1 cm in diameter and is looking very much like a mushroom. Still experiencing dead camera syndrome but once I feel better (hopefully tomorrow) I will go out to pick up some batteries just for you.

Just wanted to let you guys know the move was a success, didnt get to save a lot of water though, and of course, the RO unit isn’t going to work in this house so I’m going to have to make a couple trips to the LFS down here and hope their premixed water is relatively inexpenisve, or I can figure up another way to rig up the RO unit (the plastic adaptor part for the faucet wasn’t threaded long enough so it doesn’t work well).

Other than that, no issues.

those adapters and any plumbing parts you should need are universal. you should be able to picke up what you need for a couple of bucks at a lowes or home depot.

I think what it is, is that the little rubber ring that prevents leaks that is in the metal adaptor is blocking the way of the plastic adaptor for the sink, the adaptor fits the sink fine but screwing on the actual system metal part is where it gets tricky and won’t stay on, then if the rubber is out, it springs a leak.

I think I might try the local Lowes tomorrow, bring in the parts and try to figure it out. I paid for my RO unit and I wanna use it at home too gosh darn it! lol

You can use a saddle valve. Thats what I use. They are available at any plumbing store. 2 things to remember, the size of the pipe you want to saddle and the line size you want to connect to.

Garden hose adapter, Air water Ice

That saddle valve might be alittle out of my hands seeing as if my parents found out they would probably kill me even if I knew what I was doing, but good thing to know about for the future when I can do what ever to my own plumbing! hahaha!

I believe there is going to be a trip to some stores either tommorrow or sunday. Kind of depends on how exhausted I turn up tomorrow. :ZZZ)

Is this an older house? If so look around on the pipes downstairs. Most of the time there are saddle valves already there. Just look around. Mine was already there and in the perfect spot. Some times they were added for old water dispensers for frigs. Every now and then they are left over when something gets changed. Funny how I thought of this after reading Craig’s post. :stuck_out_tongue:

It is like 20 years old I believe. I remember it being as old as me or a little older. I might go wandering around the house. Not too much piping but I suppose I can take a gander before I go out.

the other alternative is to simply T off of an existing ice maker line. you can get a 1/4" jon guest T for about $2. no plumbing is required, its completely plug and play. after you disconnect your line you can simply put in a straight splice. thats what i did at my old house to avoid puncturing a 2nd pipe.

Problem solved  I went into Lowes with the pieces and I did my best to explain it to this guy. He took a look around the shelves and pulled off a metal version of the plastic piece that was ruined, tested it out to make sure everything fit, and OUILA! I have a running RO unit and it only cost me $2  Making RO water as we speak yay!

Thats great, the last time I wanted help at lowes I got the guy who barely knew where the plumbing dept was let alone know what I needed. They use to have some trade people who worked at the store. Recently the seem to have less and less quality people who actually know their dept.

Isnt that the truth. I went in and bought some lumber and had them cut it for my frag tank stand. I figured the guy was paying attention… I had all the measurements accurate to the 1/8" that i was giving him. When I got home, not two pieces were the same size. I had to cut everything again with a handsaw. Needless to say I’m going to be shopping at HD from now on. At least there they measure.

Oh contraire, When I had some ply sheets cut at the Depot, the guy wasted 15 minutes to find the tape measure to cut the wood. After that he said they couldn’t cut it because they had misplaced the tape measure. 10 ft from where we were standing they had an impulse display of tape measures. Hello… This is Home depot, you sell tape measures. Needless to say I offered to measure the wood myself. If they would let me use their saw I would have cut it myself too…

Lol I guess it doesnt matter where it is sometimes…

Yeah well I guess I got lucky lol. He was an older man with a french accent and he seemed to know the department luckily.

Well that move has shown that I have more life in the tank than I thought. I had to move the rocks around and they are a little different. But I have a feather duster type worm that fans out at least 1 in. diameter and I thought the ones I could see at school were big hitch hikers. Amazing what you will find only later. The levels have been stable except temperature which I recently found I can’t use a heater on the tank here, or the heater just is too powerful because I put it to 82 and it climbed to 87 and was still going and I quickly unplugged it and put a fan on it. If it continues to be like this I’m going to get a different heater. My house is a lot hotter than Newark though so it doesn’t surprise me. I guess I just gotta start low on the heater and find the happy mark on it that keeps the temp fairly constant.

Once I can get that constant and my levels are definitely stable I’m thinking about getting some Zoos or mushrooms. My free palys that I was hopefully getting fell through as the guys tank crashed and he is not sure if they are going to make it. Such a shame too they were gorgeous. I was thinking about getting cyclopeeze and feeding with that. And if I want to keep the larger feather duster should I start hatching brine shrimp so they can at least eat a little? I have a continuous brine shrimp hatcher and I kind of want to give it a whirl.

Aim for 78 degrees that way if it goes over you will stop around 82. What is the wattage of the heater?

That is what I was hoping to aim for on the heater. It should be 100W, it is the Jager Heater. I could have accidentally gotten the 150W though. I know it was rated right on the box as far as I could tell.
