Oh A1 maybe we can get a beginners section this way i wouldn’t bother a main section on my petty stuff.
You will get more attention this way without breaking the topics out. Besides there is no way I am going to make that decision :-)### >B
Chicken

No not me

:-)lol

If you keep the newby section separate like they do on that unmentioned other forum then you will have newbys giving newbys advice and the more advanced people will travel in there less often. People helping each other is what a forum is about. No one has all the answers, as we are talking about imitating the most complex eco system on the planet which scientists are still trying to figure out. But at the same time people learn from mistakes and those with experience can share what they have done to keep someone new from repeating the same mistakes.

good point but I have to say I like a1’s ans better LOL!!!

i think the best advice for a newb is discipline on patience and routine maintance. check your water levels and equipment regulary. test water parimiters regulary and when you see an apparent problem with tank inhabitants. just good husbandry practice. brian from exotic aquatica told me when i started my tank that each tank has its own fingerprints meaning that what works for me may not work on your system because everybodys at different levels and is going other ways as far as lighting ,additives, water changes, water parimters, salinty levels, condition of there surroundings, ect, i think thats true.

just my 02 cents

Ok i added a new nova extreme T5 ho light and it really is poking now. I also noticed it was coming out earlier but now it is really coming back. I just did this today. I tried to post picture but I can’t seem to find the posting picture option now. Thanks for the help all.

Also I got a refractometer. I need to get a new skimmer. This one is killing me.

Right on, good to hear. What kind of skimmer do you have?

Its is a Sea Clone 100 Protein Skimmer

yo do know you need to acclimate your tank to the new lights right? you can use screen or just turn it on for a few hours a day then slowly increase a little at a time. i say this because no one told me and i shocked my tank and killed everything in it because my tank re-cyced and it was a bad experience. you can also use screen. get screen material and layer the top of the tank with a few pieces like 3 or 4 and remove one a week till there gone.

no i didn’t read that anywhere. I will have to do that when I get home.

It sucks when it happens. It happened to me a few weeks ago when I left and went on vacation. My friend was wacthing the house and tanks but he didn’t follow my lighting schedule so he fried my tank.

yeah that sounds horrible

i have it on a timer now. But I will have to lessen it for now.

Screen to me was the easiest way to do it cause I set my timers and just pulled a sheet a week off till it was gone. They sell the screen at lowes or home depot in town here as well as buckworths hardware.

when you say a screen, what type?

The stuff you’d get to replace a screen door.

oh ok got it. Thanks.

i sen that one it was nice. i seen one on swfish.com and the guy selling it acted like they was rare to find a big one. thats all i ever see are big ones. i just bought 2 bubbles one brown one green. the green one isnt doing so hot. i scraped his skelton on a rock and now he has algea growing on it. he fully expands everyday but that dead spot scares me.

You have to be very careful with bubble corals there flesh tares very easily especially when fully inflated. When moving them around or removing them from a tank it is best to encourage them to deflate there “bubbles” as much as possible then lift them from underneath. How much algae is growing on it? If it wasn’t too much and it is still fully inflating perhaps it wasn’t that bad. Hopefully it recovers.

Jon

Well it wasn’t opening at all but now its been open for days. Fully extended and looking good.

Good to hear.
