thanks Icy. but my attempts to culture DTs Live Nano Phyto seem to have fizzled out. Chris has convinced me the smartest move is to feed Roti’s with semi frozen algea paste solutions. one less culture crash to worry about. growing algea and growing Roti’s could be a crash on a crash. . just grow roti’s with enriched algea paste. better odds.
the second batch of eggs went away. one single larvae seemed to hatch, while the rest wasted away, due to conditions, light cycle or something. try again as i lurn. If they keep doin it , i might just get it right one of these times.
If the rest waisted away I wonder if it was something to do with the parents. The parents need to eat very healthy to produce off spring. Share with us a little about their diet. Perhaps all you need is to start fortifying it with some selcon. Haven’t read up on it yet, but if I were you I’d look into it.
lost em all. staying up too late with the tank lights on. the light delays their hatching. then they eat their yolk supply and dont have the strength to break out of the egg sack. i saw them wigglin, but it was past day nine then. too far gone. the parrents eat everything i put in the tank. flake food, brine flakes, micro crab granules, frozen brineshrimp and mysis soaked in eitherselcon or vita chem or reef plus. try again. meanwhile my phyto cultures have gone clear. no growth from DTs live nano. hmmmm?? is it really alive?
I would only feed brine shrimp as a rare treat. Check in the book you have for information on conditioning foods. The one I have, by Wittenrich, says that, “A variety of fresh seafoods, including grated shimp and squid, should make up the bulk of the conditioning diet and should be offered to the pair several times daily. Vegetable matter should also be supplied. Spirulina flake foods are eagerly accepted.”
Do you have any of your tanks on timers or do you only hook those up when you go on vacation? You might want to keep them on a strict night/day time schedual.
thanks CD, but that stuff sounds mostly like for growing phyto to feed the rotifers to feed the larvae. I tried to start som phyto from DT’s but it didn’t take. so i will do what Mbbuna do , feed the roti’s on nano cryo paste, and not bother trying to grow it. its the weak link in the food chain. I got a pint on order fro BSD. and Chris said he can give me a bag of live roti’s to start my culture.
I don know Jon, i feed them, and they eat just about whatever i drop in the tank. they are OK. a nice varied diet. soon to get spare roti 's too. meanwhile they layed eggs again. seem to be on a 12 day cycle. looks like more eggs this time. I read they start out with weaker egg clutches but build them up fast. practice makes perfect.
Hey guys. I know this is a saltwater forum but my room mate Liz, who some of you met last meeting, is having issues with her turtle/parents. She got her as a quarter size little thing freshman year and now she lives with her parents and is a whopping 8 inches. She is a Red-earred Slider. Her parents are obviously sick of changing the turtles’ water because they don’t want to upgrade her current tank. Her parents are getting really antsy and Liz asked if I could post this. She is willing to give up Waffles (the turtle) to a good home, needs to be someone with larger than a 55 gallon tank (preferably 100g or larger). She will give up the food, the dock, and the heater but the heater might not work for a larger tank. She really doesn’t want to give her up to a rescue group who may just place Waffles with any one. So if you have any suggestions on where to send her, know any one looking for a mature Red-earred Slider turtle, or want her for yourself please message me!
