Paint for fish stand, which type?

I prefer Lowes, to each his own

Not all paint is enamel

The exterier paints have a UV resistance

Jon, as far as i know, and what i’ve been told is not to use oil based and latex(water based) on the same project…oil and water don’t mix scenario, i know they’ll be dry, but they may still affect each other. and oil paint is a pain, messy, fumes… imo just go latex, no primer, 3 coats… i’m not trying to bust your chops, and i think you just want to do it right the first time… but, i think you are over thinking this one… i have regular ol’ pine 2 x 4’s that have been painted like this, and have been outside for over a year, maybe two…uncovered, facing everything mother nature has got…remember two foot or so of snow last year? and the paint is on adironak chairs that have been used and abused…you’ve seen my kids, the chairs have gotten trampled! and they’ve been through a couple parties with beer bottles on the armrests… no signs of wear, fading, peeling, chipping…nothing. imo…indoor/outdoor waterbased latex…cheap, easy, one can, water cleanup.

oil primer and Latex paint, no problem.
Anything metal I paint outside I use Rustolium rusty metal oil based primer and cover with a quality latex paint.
Oil based is messy and if you do not have paint thinner or brush cleaner you will need to get some or throw the brush away

Well last week when I planned on getting to this it was raining, so I haven’t touched anything yet. Actually did move the stand into the kitchen so I could take it outside to sand, but it’s been sitting in the kitchen since. My tanks have been low on the priority list.

John are you saying I shouldn’t use that Duramax Paint I linked to with an oil based primer?

No, don’t want to stop you if you have a plan, bet it will work just fine. I just had great results with the simple method, and 1 product… When i make my next stand, 3 coats and call it a day. but you could try it out on a scrap piece of wood similar to what your painting. slap a couple brushstrokes on it, let it dry a couple hours, and go at it with a screwdriver or hammer…give it the test, see if it will hold up to the kinda bangs and accidental dings a stand gets. its gonna depend alot on how hard the wood underneath is… also i like the waterbased product alot cause its easy to work with and cleanup…but i don’t think theres a sacrifice in result either. if you really want to try it out, i have some valspar you could try on some scrap…now look who’s overthinking it! lmao… if it sucks into whatever type of plywood it is that you have, and holds up to some trial abuse…then it would be inxpensive, and easy to work with for sure.

Alright looking ahead I see rain next on Sunday. Enough time to go either way and get it done if I work on it. There will be at least a couple of days where I will be too busy the entire day to get to it.
I think I still have a couple pieces of 2/4 left over that we used for the main support beams. I suppose this thread might be nicer with some pictures.

of course it’d be better with pictures! i was actually thinking that as i read throug… PBJ!

Yeah, awesome! maybe an action packed video of the paint drying too!!!

Are you picking up on the sarcasm, cause i’m laying it on pretty thick… lOl

Well I didn’t post a pic when I said I would, but it was in the same place when I took this picture a couple of days ago and I think it may have moved an inch when I went to take the recycling out. Other then that it is still sitting up on end in my kitchen waiting for sanding.
