is this ok http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Canon+-+PowerShot+SX40+HS+Black+12.1-Megapixel+Digital+Camera+-+Black/3098129.p?id=1218382128420&skuId=3098129[/quote]
I would def have to say that i dont know verdict_in… i would have to try it on a tank. It seems like it would be nice, and probably take great pics. my only concern is it gets pretty “slow” when its not in the “wide” mode, so in english, the more you zoom, the less light the camera can absorb, making picture taking harder… this is true with all lenses, but just looking at the “f” numbers on this one, they seem high compared to what i’m using (who’s the snob now slap-stick)It might be completely fine, thats just my concern because i’m usually zooming in and taking pics.
If you’re allowed to return it, then it wont cost anything but your time to try it. you might be thrilled with it! and its like anything else, there’s always better, just depends on what you want/ expect from it. there’s pro’s out there that would scoff at my t1i, but it works for me, and i’m happy with it. I’d like to have a $5k camera, but couldn’t justify $4k more for just a touch better quality imo…
I wish there was an easy yes or no, but everything non-slr i’ve ever used all operate differently. Pretty much its a “if you’re happy then great” type of thing. I’d say read reviews, you can get some basic info that way. but reviews on performance don’t usually involve “custom” settings on point n shoots.
Yeah I just want a good deal. I’m gonna try my parents camera out and try posting them to see the diff it’s a 1k camera too but he found it for like 400 it’s the slr brand or dslr not sure it may be the t1 who knows I’ll see it tomorrow. But goin to the phils game!!
here are a couple pics with a borrowed camera set to raw, I don’t know much about it this was after adj. a few settings in 5 min time never mind the glare
Nice bonsai!!! I miss mine
Don’t forget to close the shades LoL. That will help cut down the reflection. On my tank I have to cover from the light fixture to the tank to avoid the reflection from my lights… Makes my whole basement glow blue. wonder what the neighbors think it is…
i know it was a fast picture i borrowed a camera and had 5 min to test it i am just wondering if the pic looks good like focus and color so i can decide if i want to buy a camera
focus is good and the bonsai looks almost as good as in person, but that clam def’ly needs a new home, close by, maybe a mile north.
cool i guess i can blame my old camera for the bad pics lol that clam looks happy there ha ha
when i take a picture in raw mode after i put it on the computer it gives a copy in the raw mode and jpeg the raw mode is very blue looking how do i adjust that mode on the computer or on the camera before it is put on the computer? ill post an example.
this is the jpeg photobucket won’t allow me to upload raw
Get viewNX 2 for post processing. Its great.

RAW files need to be “processed” first, and then turned into a jpeg, or whatever. if i ever shoot raw images then I use photoshop for that part.

+1
If you use canon camera, you can download their free RAW processing SW called DPP. It’s only editing sw I use and it’s VERY easy and did I mention FREE.
BTW saltcreep, I love your sense of humor.

ViewNX is a Nikon software and RAW can be proprietary, Nikon may very well keep up with all vendor RAW formats but I’m not sure, I know adobe does a good job of updating their decoders.
Also most camera vendors offer a software branded to them that supports their native formats.
thanks for the info it is a canon so i’ll try their program hey rosti just went on their site and it has no option for mac, will it work on mac?
I am pretty sure it will, you need to select download option for mac. All Canon’s tutorials are done on mac, as it’s preferred color space. I just checked and it’s avail for MAC for sure.
do i go to canons website
