If you could ask Santa for one piece of equipment for your tank, that is currently made or will soon be released, what would it be?
LED lighting fixture.I haven’t done any serious research regarding companies etc…But that’s one piece of equipment which is on my wish list.
Have to say I’m with you there and with out too much thought I would have to say an LED fixture would probably be number one on my list, but just a 36" fixture I could try out. Vertex and AquaIlluminations seem to be two of the better brands, but I haven’t looked into anything hard core myself either, just what I’ve heard people talking about.
Feel free to chime in even if you’re just looking for a new return pump or power head or whatever. What’s number one on your list?
I have led’s made for me I am going to start a group buy on them some time this weekend or next week some time. led’s are the way to go. And the prices are not that bad even for a 6 ft light. But if i was looking for some thing it would be a new cone skimmer. even know i Love my SWC down draft skimmer i don’t think it works as good as it should. might be that it is rated for like 400 gal and i am running like 350 or something gals in that system.
I hope Craig dose not get made at me for posting this lol
Craig
Any idea of what skimmer you would go for? If you could ask Santa for anything.
As a kid I learned real quickly you had to be specific with Santa. I had all 5 pages of my typed up double spaced letter prioritized with specifics on each item. If you ask him for a skimmer you may just end up with a sea clone or what ever those cheap ones are called.
Always wanted one of those whole house programmers, that way, bunch of lights, could be slowly cycled to simulate sun rising on one side of tank, till mid day strong light, then slowly fading away to west side of tank to simulate end of day, then a moonlight for the night.
LED lighting fixture. It would be nice to cut some utilities cost in the long run.

What kind of lighting do you have? Seems to me you would need to set up LED lighting in order to do that and be using an unreliable system. Most “whole house programmers” I have seen in the past use X10 time devices which click loudly or are just very unreliable. A Digital Aquatics or Neptune controller, I prefer the later, would do that sort of thing. Orrr. option B would be to use a light system that has that kind of control built in like the Vertex LEDs.(may be able to with AI as well, but haven’t seen that feature used yet)
I don’t think santa has this much cash lol Super Reef Octopus SRO-XP9000E Cone Skimmer $1,300 but i could be wrong. Please santa make it happen
Not to shabby. You’d pick that over a Bubble king though? I’ve been looking at the sweet the Deltec neck cleaners. A lid for a Deltec skimmer cup can run as much as that Octopus! More realistically though an Avast swabbie isn’t too horribly priced and I may be seriously looking at one of those in the near future.
i want a full test kit that is digital, pushbutton, and reliable
Two mp40w es.
and maybe a neptune to keep track of things;-)
I’d like a couple of amputee midgets from Indonesia that will sit on the floor with a few lengths of 1/4 in. tubing blowing bubbles in to a 6 ft cone skimmer – this way I can have the benefit of the cone skimmer but not have to use the electricity to run it.
OK -so I’d just settle for a couple LED lights.
if santa brings me the neptune controller, ill help ol’ ladies cross the street all next year…
Jon you are fully responsible for this, ha…the more reading I do, the more the cost is justified…Was really considering getting the Jr. unit, but I’m just going to save my pennies and get the next model up.
And Im asking Ms. Claus to get me an LED lighting system…the cost of good T-5 bulbs is killing me…need 10 a year…just need to keep reading and decided on DIY or a built unit…also need to gain some more experience with what Im getting myself into as far as doing this on my own…
I’d pick an SRO skimmer as well. I just want a SRO5000EXT, I don’t believe the cones make a difference, especially for the cost. And to finish my DIY LED light would be nice, I’ve had dozens of LEDs and 8 meanwell drivers sitting around.
I like Craigs midget idea. Maybe we could get a group buy together for them.
Best part is they’re cheap - you just have to pretend to want to adopt them as family ;D

Incredibly insensitive. I would never make the midget amputees sit on the floor.
how long is the acclimation, shipping must be hard on them

OK fine but anything higher then a milk crate raises my homeowners insurance rates.

It’s not bad. Hold a plastic bag over their heads for 2 minutes and they’re thrilled with whatever conditions you leave them in.
