Oh I got ya. Hmmm that sounds new and unproven in my opinion I would do the singles. But these may be great I don’t know.

This stuff sounds too expensive to be playing trial and error with.
My head starts spinning when i imagine the time i’ll spend researching when i do my first led build verdict_in[/quote]
That’s why I am asking for opinions. I kind of think a fail safe would be to see someones ai sol unit to get exact measurements and make a duplicate and maybe if there is enough space I would like to put the 420’s in the middle between the 3up’s.
Ai sol uses 2 50 degree optics and 1 70 degree I believe. So I am limited with the optics but with the right height I think my idea could work
finding some LED lights that are dimmable would help. Ive been bouncing around on what to buy shortly. stuck now between the OC Reef 72w 24 inch strip light with full remote control and the EVO 100 18" with maual dimming. but they are both dimmable for adjusting par.
Rapid led sells the dimming kit with a remote control. Every color will have a dimmer on my setup. With the Inventronics drivers they can be hooked up to a Apex controller.
Yah But! I don’t like controllers. I’m a manually operated kind of guy. controllers are just one more expense and one more thing to break down, assuming i can figure out how to work a controller in the first place. I have my doubts.

They do sell simple manual dimmers.
I am going to try and stop at radio shack today to see if they have what I would need and see if it would be cheaper there. The dimming kits on ledgroupbuy are a bit pricey and it does not even come with a enclosed box.
I broke down and bought 2 bulbs for 1 of my fixtures those 2 bulbs cost me almost the same as 4 of the 3 up led’s 2 more bulbs and there is all of the led’s lol
Make sure you get a Potentiometer that is 10k Ohms

Thanks for the reminder. I also gotta make sure its rated 1-10v.
I have a have a transmission job I will be working on Monday so I hope the rebuild shop can do a fast turn around and that will pay for my led setup for both tanks for the most part.
Did you ever order these lights? I’m getting ready to order a DIY kit and was considering get a blue and a purple but not sure if the purple is worth it and I don’t want to waste the money if it isn’t going to work.
Na I didn’t yet. I ended up using the money to buy another car I am going to flip and also in the process of trying to buy another 2 cars once one of mine is sold…Gotta keep the cars going since I have a shop(YaY) and a house where bills have to be paid every month…
I still plan to buy the led’s soon. I might just do the one for the 20long but make it more like the AI SOL and do 4 or 6 3up leds and 5 or 6 of the 420’s. I might even add more 420’s to supplement better so I would definitely have no need in the future to use t5’s to supplement.
My thought of doing more then what was recommended was for future tank. I would like to setup a frag tank so I can get all the frags out of my main tank and not have it look so messy and the 20long will more then likely stay as my softies tank.
When do you plan on ordering your led’s?
Within the next few days, think I’m going to just get he the blue, until I hear some more feedback
I don’t think I asked but are you going with the 3up’s?
No I didn’t,I’m waiting on an email back from rapid led,I’m just waiting for them to email me my invoice so I know what I’m getting.I’m ordering 2 36"led kits,1 blue and the other purple with the dual dimmer switch and 60* optics, now I wait for hem to send my PayPal the invoice so I can pay them
I just emailed rapidled if they can get the 3ups and if the black heatsink with splashgaurd would work with 3ups. I like that heatsink the most but if it wouldn’t work right then I might go with the 10" wide heatsink from ledgroupbuy. I just want to make sure I have enough spacing between all the 3ups and 420’s. The optics are to limiting on those 3ups with only 40 degree optics available.
UPs is supposed to deliver my package from rapid on Tuesday! I can’t wait!
Awesome!!!
I can’t wait to order mine after doing much research I can not find much info with people using the 3up’s so I might go the single led route.
There is to much things in this hobby to waste money on LOL… Maybe after the next transmission job the money will just go to the lights
