48" 8 Bulb T5 Fixture TEK Light Clone $300

THIS IS A BRAND NEW 8 BULB T5 FIXTURE PURCHASED 2 WEEK AGO NEVER USED MAYBE JUST FOR COUPLE HRS, TOO LONG FOR MY 65G TANK. THIS FIXTURE WAS SOLD UNDER THE HELLOLIGHTS BRAND NAME. IT IS BASICALLY A CLONE OF SUNLIGHT SUPPLY’S TEK LIGHT. ASKING $300…

price drop.

I bought one of their 4 lamp units a while back. keeping it for the new frag tank. its a pretty good light strip . I like the individually formed parabolic reflectors for each lamp. it works good. I suppose the 8 lamp unit has the same formed reflectors.

how wide is the light? (i KNOW, 48") width from front to back of the light?

48 1/2" x 19 1/2" x 2 1/2"

So tempting :ZZZ)

is there any other way to suspend the lights other than hanging it from a ceiling? are there tank mounts for this fixture?

there no mounting leg if you have canopy you can try to hanging from the top of your canopy instead of ceiling

I’m going to make a simple, lite, wooden cradle frame for mine. I will make it adjustable so as i can move the light strip up and down to get the right distribution of light in the tank. should be simple. Much like me.

damn those lights would be perfect but i’m lacking a canopy and i can’t drill holes into my ceiling

if only this were an HO fixture… just dont think it’s enough wattage for what i had in mind.

It is HO. All T-5’s are HO, but some are overdriven if run on an ice cap ballast.

I’m looking for new lights for my 6’ 125g. Would this fixture be a suitable upgrade? I was looking at the 12 x 39 current nova, but the $650 price tag is more than I can afford.

IF it is identical to the Tek light, there are mounting legs you can buy for it. I build a canopy for mine and basically pressure fitted it into the canopy. It slides down from the top and I have two boards on the inside that the edges rest on, works like a charm. This light is definitely powerful enough for any application.

What bulbs does it come with?

I have a canopy for my tank that I can probably modify to fit this fixture. My worry was that it wouldn’t give enough light for the length of the tank. I’m interested in the fixture if someone more experienced thinks it will satisfy my needs.

:BUMP)

Chad,

your tank is 6’ and this light is only 4’ long, this might work fine for a fish only system where lighting ins not of the utmost importance but i think it would be sub-par for a tank where you intend on doing corals. You would end up with dim spots on the sides of the tank. this would result in you only being able to place corals in the center of the tank and would not allow you full aquascaping freedom that a proper 6’ light assembly would permit.

just my :TWOCENTS

I would however jump all over this for a 4’ frag tank if my funds would allow.

My 4 lamp unit is HO 54w per lamp. im pretty sure the 8 tube unit is too. seller can verify. cant he?

i used to think so too. but incorrectly…
standard t-5 bulbs 48" r only 28 watts. it’s the HO’s that reef keepers are striving for, which are 54 watts ea.
for ex. this fixture standard t5 is only 224 watts total. the same HO fixture is 432 watts. pricey for only 224 watts, but well worth it for 432 watts of light. imo

Fishguy is right, not all T5s are HO, there are 28w T5s. What makes you say this isn’t an HO fixture?
