Great pics
Like some of those zoas
In a new attempt to get my unknown aiptasia-like pest under control, I bought a pair of peppermint shrimp on Friday. I setup my old 5g AIO I built as a QT. I got a pair of emerald crabs to take care of my growing bubble algae problem too. They’ll be in here until April 13 or until they molt.
Nice, I have the same tank, still pretty new, about 4 months old now. Just curious as to how you plan to get those emerald crabs out. I got a couple a few months back for the same reason and they’ve molted twice already, thier getting really big and mean looking. And it seems the more i try to catch them the smarter they get.
The struggle is real There is only one piece of live rock in there and it is a flat piece of shelf rock. No where to hide!
I put 4 pep shrimp in the right side of my tank awhile back and they are slowly doing a great job of eating the aiptasia. So far I have only noticed the shrimps on the side I placed them.
I should have put 2 on the left side and 2 on the right side.
But hopefully when they are out of food on the one side, they will move to the other side.

Ha! My tank isn’t really large enough for them to be so picky

Been a while since I updated. Long story short, none of the fish made it out of QT. 4 of them likely would have, but I left a pump off overnight and they didn’t make it. Plan to buy more of the same chromis along with a matted filefish and a yellow corris wrasse in the near future. Just waiting to see if my dog’s vet is willing to give me a prescription for Chloroquine phosphate so I don’t have to use copper.
In the meanwhile, I’ve been messing around with my macro lens a bunch more. I took a few quick shots during a water change the other day.[/quote]
What is that’s in the picture with the red zoas?! It looks like a clear spider!

I don’t see what you see Can you circle it?
Oh! Thanks, Frank. I was looking at the Darth Maul palys, not the VDMs.
Those are the pest I’m trying to eradicate, it is not a spider but it sure does look like one. :-)### Someone actually just today may have figured out what it is. It appears they may be Anthopleura pallida (or a relative).
Yes Hudson thank you. Sure does look like a creepy crawly. Lol.

Stopped in ASR today. I’m done with adding zoas for a while until I know why they suddenly die. I wound up buying a giant birds nest It is the size of a softball.
I decided after watching the BRS videos about the Kessil A360WE that is just isn’t powerful enough for my tank. I like the sleek design of the Radion XR15W so I decided to make a change. Only thing I needed to worry about was mounting it. I have a mount I really like for the existing Kessil, so I wanted to reuse that if I could. I had some back and forth with Ecotech and they offered to sell me the part that I wanted to make it work.
Here’s the typical bracket part of the RMS for the XR15. I really only want the “X-shaped” part of this, so I set about disassembling it.

Turns out it’s really easy to pop the top of the bracket off with a pair of pliers. Here’s what you’re left with…

When I popped it off, I was really happy with what I saw. I just needed a couple of washers, a bolt and a nut and I had what I needed. There’s nothing special about those parts, so I didn’t take a pic Here’s the first test fit…

Pretty good! Here’s the final assembleture.

Looks good.
I was having the same problem with zoa’s for a while. Do you feel like you’re dealing with sps sometimes lol
I do! People are always saying zoas are easy… I was thinking, “Have you ever had any!?”

I am giving some more zoa’s a chance. Got some hallucinations and solar flares coming. I am so broke right now. This hobby is the devils work.
if you ever want to frag off some of those purple zoas and the blue zoas, sign me up please! they are gorgeous
Well after losing all of my SPS and seeing most of my zoas just close up I guess this is my chance at a reboot. I pulled out a bunch of frags that weren’t grown onto the rock work and put them in a hospital tank. To my surprise, they’re starting to open up. Not sure what is in there but I’m happy to see some of them.
I see some orange bam bams, some tubs blue, maybe a few of the WEC purple monsters, some pink constellations and I think some green implosions. I also found a really tiny acan frag.
Watch out! Ghost shrimp!!!
Kyle, maybe show your next shrimp this pic as a good example. It is so weird how they lock their old shell onto something like that.
Fun fact, immediately after a molt is the only time a peppermint shrimp is female. Lasts for something like 15 minutes before their shell hardens. You can tell which his going to molt next by watching when they start becoming really “popularâ€ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ.
