i have a 72 bow… and for now i have 10 sump with live rock. i bought a 30g long home made refugium tried to fit it under couldn’t get it to fit… Any one have any ideas ?
Do the dimensions of the 30 have room underneath, and you just couldn’t “swing” it in, or just too big all together?
Whats the problem? Is it the center braces in the way? I know some people have to cut a door into the side of the stands to slide the bottom tank in. I will have to do that on mine. I got a 30long myself and dread the day I put it in and disturb all the life I have in the fuge now.
The dimensions fit like glove… The problem is swinging it in
like a tight glove? or a loose one? lol if it won’t swing in the only option would be cutting something right? or removing the tank or bottom of stand which looks like you have a full tank so thats a lot of work but if you planned on changing it around this would be the time.
Do you think if the center brace was out of the way it would fit? If so, that would probably be an easy temporary removal/ support. For more “swing room” you could notch into that drywall behind the stand…thats if theres no stud right in the spot you need to notch it… and if you’re renting ,they might frown on it >:::… If your talking about a couple inches, that may give you a little extra space to “parallel park” it in there.
Jeff i was thinking the same thing. Hate to disturb the life in my sump. but theres so much life in my tank. i know it would re populate in a few weeks.
The problem is the center brace… a door on the side of my tank wouldnt work on my 72 bow, the end sides are as wide as 55g but the center of my tank is is wide as a 75g. so fitting a 30g L is too wide for the side.
i thought about cutting the wall. but i am renting. so thats not an option. seems like my only option is temporally removing the center brace
Is there a way to sure up the area by the center brace prior to removing it? You should be able to remove the brace without it breaking but hate to take the chance. Maybe a temp 2x4 across the front under the tank?
Removing the brace would be a bad idea as the weight of the tank is already on it. I know when you build a really heavy tank on studs, placing re-enforcement braces under the studs once the tank is filled is useless as the weight is already on the studs alone. You’d probably have to “jack” up the front of the tank a quarter inch to replace the brace, if not jack it up to put in the temp braces.
I know there was a post(not sure if it was on this forum) a guy had to cut the front stud so what he did was build 2 L shape braces that stuck out from the tank and screwed them into the bottom of the top part of the stand and cut the brace. Then installed the sump/fuge replaced the original brace and removed the temp brace.
You’re main tank may have a lot of life but for me I have 2 mandarins. 1 currently living in the fuge other in the main. I lose that big supply of good stuff It would take me another 6 months or better to re populate like it is now. I might just add another tank piggy backed to my system. I would love to be able to do a water change without having to turn my pump off.
