there’s my 2 pennies
a little hard to read, is that your setup?
I want to add a manifold to my return to run my phosban reactors
Just saw other 2 posts… okay… i have all the room in world to work with
Im trying to find a 40g breeder to create a 2 in 1 sump and refugium. I will drill the DT to drain into the sump, then the first compartment will have liverock, second will have skimmer, 3rd will be macros and live sand, and 4th will be return. the return will T of once to incoporate a manifold to run 2 phosban reaactors, and then continue that line back to the sump (in case i want to turn off water to main tank, and dont want to turn off sump pump… and to manage water flow). Then it will t off again for the return, and the water will return to the tank via 2 lockline return thingies…
using a mag 7.
1" drain
1/2" return
I cant find a shallow big enough tank. I have to go up to Lancaster to that fish place to spend the 100 bucks i have in gift cards, so ill see if they have anything, but thats the problem right now. Also on clist there is nothing really.
hope that makes sense
Ok pics of the stand tonight… some deleted all my pics… but i have the before and after staining… about to put the second stain coat on (want darker). Also got all the suppliesi need for the the tank setup besides piping. Need to install baffles, and get the sump built…
ill post pics soon… tonight

nice job!
Your on your way now!
How do you plan to do the devisors? Using acrylic right?(I wouldn’t suggest glass) Temporarily wedging in somehow?(Careful if you do) Or siliconing in?
THANKS, love approval…
Bafffles hmmm, well i wanted glass, father acrylic. where i have read with trials is the acrylic will expand over time? either way im going with acrylic… i wont break it lol…
thought about wedging, thought it wouldnt be water proof enough. so silicone it is…
starting on plumbing prelims soon, need to figure out all this talk about return pipe sizes?
How do i connect the phosban to the manifold, hard pvc, or soft plastic stuff… how do you guys set it up?
Glass is a royal PITA to work with and few people ever pull it off. Good choice with acrylic.

Mine has been set up in the past by wedging the vinyl tub into some lock line. It fell out frequently. I searched around for a barbed fitting I could put the vinyl on, but was unable to find anything. I too would like to find a way to adapt it to a PVC T in the manifold I have under my main frag tank. Almost posted about it. If you find a solid solution let me know, lol.
Ill let you know if i figure out anything that will work…
You know when you look at a picture… and you just know his mom took it because she is so proud… haha!
No, i took all of those pics… the kid is my friend lol

Use the 1/2" Slip/Slip/Female Thread T’s when you build your manifold. Use a 1/2" MaleThread/Male Barb adapter and thread it into your manifold with plumbers tape. If the TLF reactors still come with a barbeb valve then use that inline with the vinyl tubing. If not, plumb a hard PVC balvalve off the manifold before the barb adapter.
I think im going to use a 3/4 inch pipe for return good idea?.. i have a 1" drain…
Built the manifold, ill do pics tomorrow… 2nd paint coat… working on second stain coat… got acrylic, so sumpin it up tomorrow… my only problem now is support for the pvc pipe… it willbe 1ft off the floor, and will be in a L shape roughly 2ftx4ft… do i need to find some kind of support for it… ???
Heres the pics so far, first varnish tomorrow…
begining of sump baffles
manifold
You seem to be getting everything in order. Just some info about the primer you are using to clean the PVC, you can buy that in a clear form, so you don’t see it on the PVC pipes.
ya, just cosmetics… yep its coming along… ordering lights soon… around 2 weeks and we will be ready to rumble but im going to wait until 2010…
So now im on the next stage. Sump done, manifold done… now i need to focus on 2 things…
- How to put the lighting over the refug?
- I believe i am going to use the TCP (sp?) bulb that Meleev talks about in his whole rant on refugiums. Then use one of those spring loaded clip on sockets… anyone got anything better/
- power supply. Where am i going to put the 2 power strips that will house all the cords…
- My thought is in the center beam in the back of the stand, then one on the roof of the stand
- Topoff. Going to go buy a 10g tank. Put a cheap pump in there… then rig a float switch to trip it. i know Logans daddy knows this back and front, and i think i know how to do it but another explanation could be good…
- What parts to i need? pump, float switch, ??? recomendations on brands would be appretiated…
- I dont want this to siphon so is drilling a hole in the glass above the return pump spot in the tank a good idea, or is there measures i can take to stop the water from siphoning… from the topoff tank
Working on some mods for my coralife skimmer hopefully it will run better, and i can hopefully cut down on micro bubbles…

10g tank = glass walls. If glass walls are located where they get any light at all even if it just houses RO water you will get algae over time. Would be better to put it in something dark or just find a way to cover the walls.
For the pump for you ATO I would recommend a Tom Aquatics Aqua-Lifter. Will pump water very slowly through airline tubing. It is all you will need and you can get one for under $20 from most LFS I believe.
