here is a few pics of whats goin on so far in my newest build. started about a month ago. basic stuff really, mh light w/ 2 flo bulbs. sump type filter w/ built in skimmer. one HOB filter, 2 heaters, 2 small powerheads and about 120lbs of rock. mostly base. a few fish, couple anemones, few mushrooms and zoas…
getting started, moved all my cichlids into the wifes tank and cleaned mine out/filled it up…
from this…
to this…
to this…
few pieces of live, and 100 lbs of base rock
a few weeks in, getting some brown algae. of course nemo and a friend moved in first. a few snails, and a gbta…
then “ben” showed up, longhorn cowfish… another one the 4 year old picked out
3 little orange ricordea
sebae anemone, and a little flower anemone (back left corner of pic)
big green, another bta
one of my shrimpies
some little mushrooms
a rogue mushroom i attached to a rock, and the wife’s new sailfin tang
few button polyps, i just woke them up… lol
my humu humu trigger… no problems out of him YET… we will see.
the latest FTS… still workin on getting coraline. but the few snails and a sifter goby i have are doing a good job with the brown stuff.
thats all i got so far. i am sure plenty more will follow.
Looking good feeder boy LOL… I love the cow fish. I have heard they have lots of personality.
I like your pillars. Once you have corals attached to them they are going to look cool. I see lots of potential in this tank. When you are ready for some frags just yell at me.
P.S. I think that huma might be trouble down the road, but I never put one in a reef before.

i figured. but as indecisive as i am, i have planned out 3 different tanks and haven’t stuck to any of them yet! was gonna go strict reef, then planned on just getting fish only. lions/triggers/groupers and such. now its just gonna end up a smorgasborg of whatever looks cool. so as far as corals r concerned, i think it’s gonna stay pretty basic. shrooms, zoas, and some frogspawn. but like i said, who knows. i am just adding and watching. making sure all is well before i proceed. i know the trigger is gonna get a little big for me. just grab him up and send him to mom. but thanks ento, glad u lik it so far. (now swapping rock would be good for me!!!)lol

Wow, you are MUCH better at stacking rocks than me!!
Are they epoxied or drilled?
drilled, made stands out of 1/2 cpvc. then just stacked some stuff in between to keep from being too vertical.

Your son has cool taste in fish! :GOLD)
glad someone thinks so!!! lol honestly, that cowfish is one of the coolest fish i have ever owned. eats out of my hand, follows me around wherever i go… just something about him.
glad rockwork is stable cause if not could lead to disaester. are you using the TOM all in one sump and overflow with aqualifter? if so just change out the clear airline to black stealth tubing. keeps algea from forming and plugging aqualifter. i have the same sump on my tank and trouble free. main thing is to have an ATO ot keep water level constant for it to work trouble free.

Belive me, that is 100% true. It sucks when you lose fish and/or corals to a rockslide. When you are ready for any frags let me know… I’m about 2 min from the store so you can come over and see if there is anything you want.
oh yeah, spent a lot of time drilling rock… lol. and glad i did. i have a sleeper goby digging away and i told the wife at least i don’t have to worry about the rock going anywhere. thanks icy. like i said, not sure exactly the direction the tank is going yet, but i will def. be calling. Saint:)
they have a lot of personality. if they die from stress they will boom your whole tank. it might get to large for your tank too. i think it might go after shrimp but its been a long time since mine

The cowfish is cool, but my LFS told me they weren’t reef safe. Is that true?
no problems yet. eats out of my hand and seems to stay in the frnt of the tank looking for food ALL day long. i only have a few things in there as far as corals so far. so we will see…
