Love your tank. I am setting up a 65g and have my LR curing and I have been playing around with pvc,egg crates and zip tie and I can’t get it right I was wondering how u set it all up and if u had any pics of the process. I have no clue on how I’m going to have lr setup yet. Anyone know a website with layout ideas
Well unfortunately I did not take pics. I had a largish piece of lr with many holes so what I did was use this piece as the base. I bought a pvc tee and put a section of pvc in the tee and then used zip ties to secure it to the lr. I did not secure all of my lr, only the base pieces. It wasn’t really that hard so just use your imagination and I am sure it will turn out great!!!

Did the Flame stop nipping at the SPS?
Not yet, but I still get great pe at night. His nipping appears to be harmless as everything is still growing. I think it may be getting less, but is still enough to keep the pe down during daylight hours.
I think we are sometimes a bit too hyper critical about interactions. what we see as nipping at coral polyps, might only, sometimes, be a little lip service type “tasting”. not actually taking a piece, just a lick to see if it tastes good. It’s a great big wurld of trial and error.
I tend to agree with you kapten. The flame is just too beautiful for me to worry about a nip here and there. Like I said the corals are all still doing good.

Looking nice Ento. Look at all the purple you have already! My tank is totally infested with green green green coraline, with small bits of purple here and there.
Yes Ento, Ive had other angels that did the same thing, lemon peel, yellow angel, coral beauty, but never any damage. Just tasting, never a polyp missing. If they were taking a bite, even now and then, you would notice the white bare spots right away. Like one time i bought what i thought was a lawn mower algae blenny from the old newark tropicals. It looked interesting because its markings were a bit on the reddish-orange side. which i hadn’t seen before. otherwise looked, acted just like a lawn mower blenny.
I took it home and plopped him in the reef tank and watched him settle down. just perching on a rock, checking things out. I figured he was scoping out the abundance of hair algae all over the place, with a hungry eye. Then he jumped up to feed! Swam straight for a large branching SPS Acro, opened wide like to swallow a truck and latched on to the side of the acro, shook like crazy and swam back to his perch.
WHOA! a great big chunk of coral tissue was gone right down to the white skeleton!! looked just like one of those cartoon shark bites, shaped just like its mouth. And then he did it again and again. My acro was getting covered with Big White Hickeys. !! All over the place.
I caught him right away and dropped him in a bucket of water while i searched the web for an ID. Turns out i had bought a Leopard Blennie which eats pretty much nothing BUT hard and soft corals.

Thanks Ian. The funny thing is all of the rocks except one tiny one were dry for over a year and white as can be. I seeded the tank with one small coraline covered rock and it just took off. I am glad it seems to be staying off the front glass. I hate scraping coraline!
I may have spoken to soon about the flame. I watched him attack two of my new sps frags all day yesterday. It seems like the nipping is getting worse. I debated back and forth trying to decide if the sps or the fish were staying and I decided to remove the flame. I will be leaving town again tomorrow for two weeks so I need to find a home for this fish fast. I am going to post in the disscusion forum, but if anybody wants a nice flame I will meet you somewhere tomorrow morning on my way out of town. I paid $59, but will let her go for $25.

do you like the vortech or the tunze better? how powor stuff you her full is the tunze. any other opinions you have noticed about eather power head?
I like both. For larger tanks you can’t beat the vortech. I think it may be too much for smaller tanks, but it depends on what types of corals you are keeping. Tunze has nano streams that work well for tanks in the 20-40g range.

Did you sell the Flame?? I'd be interested in it if you still have it.
Overall I am very happy with the progress of my tank. Being away from it for so long last month has really made the new growth more noticeable to me. I ended up with a small algae bloom on the sand due to over feeding by my family while I was away, but I figure if that is the worst that happened I am grateful.
