a little about me

First I would like to thank everyone for nominating and voting for me as your 2016 President!!! I am honored to be given the opportunity to lead this club! I am going to try to do the best that I can. I have been thinking of ideas to better the club! There are things the club has done in the past that I would like to bring back, such as club trips, group buys, etc. The club hasnt been very active, so it’s my intentions on making some changes and get this club active again!

A little about me:

I was born in DE and soon after moved to TX and then GA. My father was in the military. At age 5 we moved back to DE and have been here ever since. I am married and a stay at home mom. Jeremy(who you all know) and I have been married for 13 yrs. We have two boys ages 6 (Jacob) and 12 (Shane). I have owned an aquarium for about 20 years now. I started out with a fresh water system (55 gals) which had tropical/community fish in it. About a year later I decided to try my hand at african cichlids. I kept them for about a year or so then decided to try saltwater. So I traded the cichlids in and set the 55 up as saltwater. I was not successful with the saltwater tank and gave up on it only after a few months. I then went back to african cichlids. I kept them until about 4 yrs ago when I decided to give saltwater another try! So I got rid of the africans and set my 55 gal up as a saltwater tank. About 8 months later I got a great deal on a 90 gallon complete set up. So I swapped the 55 over to the 90 which I am still running today. I then set the 55 gal up with discus. I decided they werent for me. They were very pretty but not an active fish. They were also hard to find locally. So I set the 55 back up as an african cichlid tank. My 12 yr old then wanted his own tank. So I bought him a 29 gal set up. He started with community fish. When I mentioned to him about getting rid of my cichlids because I needed to take the tank down(due to plans on adding to the house) he decided he wanted the cichlids so he traded the community fish for my cichlids. So the 55 is currently sitting empty. At some point I will be giving the 55 to my son for his cichlids. About 6 months ago I bought a 210 gallon tank. Which is still sitting empty!! We are planning on adding onto the house so I didnt want to set up the 210 and then have to take it down for the addition. Hopefully I will be setting it up soon! Thinking of making it a predator tank and keeping the 90 as a reef.

I am very excited for this year coming up!! I hope that everyone will be pleased with me. If you ever have any suggestions, ideas, complaints, comments etc don’t hesitate to shoot me a personal message.

Again Thank you!

Congratulations Karen!

I’m sure you will do a great job. You have already done a great deal of work participating and promoting the club the past couple years. Feel free to call on me for any tasks that come up the coming year. I will do my best to help. I hope many other members can do the same so that we have a successful and fun year!
Participation is the key.

Congrats, Karen!

I’d love to see the club more active again. Things like group buys, trips to vendors, etc would be awesome!

Congratulations Karen.

One thing I’d like to see is more meetings at the Fish Bowl.

Congrats, Karen. You need any help with ideas and running the club just let me know (email of course). And I’m sure those other fellas will be there for you as well.

Thanks everyone!
