African Cichlids Free to a good home - newark

I have 5 mixed africans that are about 4-5". I am breaking the tank down and need to rehome them. They’re free if you come pick them up.

I don’t have a pic right now but if interested I can snap a few when I get home.

Alternately, does anyone know of any LFS that will take fish?

I’m sure DPA there in Newark will take them.

You think? I asked one of the guys working there and he said I need to bring in pictures but that he didn’t think they would take them.

these are pending pickup.

Confirmed: DPA does not accept fish!

New to me, I traded stuff before. Things change I guess.

I thought they do on some occasions but I think you almost have to be a regular there. It has been awhile since I had to take fish there. I have noticed though a bunch of LFS do not like taking corals/fish from walk-in people.

Maybe it’s just for african cichlids? They are large and probably take up too much tank space, plus they are pretty common.

You may be right about being a regular. I need to get some face time :stuck_out_tongue:

Keep in mind most people have small tanks and most people want to watch fish grow up. Also if you have 6 large cichlids and you try to add a 7th… doesn’t always go so well and really depends on the species. I know they have taken similar animals for free in the past and sat on them for 4 months. They could take up 4-5 tanks that have to be fed and kept clean during that time.

Now what you consider large they may not and you may have species that get along with other animals easier. This is why they asked for pictures.

Sorry I am unaware of any aquariums where we could use them, but good luck to you. Maybe try taking DPA pictures or just going to the Local Stores link at the top and calling each one until you find one that will take them.

Thanks for the suggestions. They were picked up last night! I am breaking the tank down now for cleaning then rebuilding it for salt!
