aggression problems

hey all, i recently added a royal gramma to my tank and the flame angel seems to be a bully towards it not allowing it to leave its hiding hole much. I’ve done a pretty big re arrangement of rocks in the tank but didn’t help. any other suggestions? is the gramma able to stand up against the angle once more settle in?

Flame angels should always be the last addition to a set up, when they feel like the new guy the are less aggressive. If you add new stock they usually beat them up.

maybe if you take him out for a while then add him when the gamma is settled I have a false gamma and he is the aggresive one.

If it has a good hiding place, i’d say let em work it out on their own. Then again, i’ve never had those kind of fish. How many days has it been? is it beat up looking? is it eating at all?

No offense, but how is this advice at all to any of my questions? I understand flames are supposed to be last however, I made this exception.

As for the fish, it does have a hiding hole and it seems to be eating fine. I think its hiding might be too close to where the flame angel likes to hang out and it sees it as aggression. I might remove the angel for a few days and see what happens.

No offense taken. It was pretty straight forward of an answer, maybe not the one you want. Flame angels are notorious for beating up nearly any fish you add after they settle in, to add to that royal gramma’s seem to get beaten up alot. I went through 3 royal gramma’s lost to bullying by clown fish in a 3 month period in my old nano.

It is what it is, watch it play out I guess.

sounds good, thanks for the follow up. I’ll keep an eye on him and we’ll see what happens

What you did was how you interpreted it! Funny nevertheless.

Well instead of kicking someone while they’re down we should focus in trying to find a solution to the problem that will educate, enlighten, and prevent fish from dying.

And if we can’t refrain from criticizing new members that have made the same mistakes we all have, ill implement RC type rules over here :-p

Edit: good decision to delete the last post

I said it before I read it and didn’t mean to come off that way… :BEER … not fast enough apparently…

Problem worked out, thread should be deleted.

Nah we don’t delete threads (often) around here. Just because your issue worked itself out doesn’t mean someone else won’t have the same problem and be able to resolve it by reading your thread.

Glad it worked out for you.

To anyone confused, I said something not thought out, and apologized for it in PM.
