aiptasia control

I currently have a zoanthid frag in my quarantine tank that keeps having aiptasia pop up between the polyps. When I first received this frag, I saw some on it, cut it off with an exacto knife and dipped it. 5 days later 2 aiptasia show up on the other side of the frag. I broke off that part of the plug. 3 days later more shows up in the middle of the zoos. >::: This is getting irritating now. Is there a way to keep it from coming back without chopping up this small colony? (20 or so heads) I want the tank to remain free of aiptasia as it has been up until now. I was thinking kalkwasser or some other paste but concerned about being so close to the zoos, I don’t want to kill them. What would be the best approach to getting this eradicated without harming the coral it is on? I also wanted to know for future reference if it pops up in the middle of another colony of say LPS or SPS what method is the most effective? Right now they are VERY small but I want to “nip it in the bud” before it spreads. This is part of the problem as it is hard to work on stuff this small. All suggestions appreciated and considered. abcd

I use peppermint shrimp for aiptasia control. Some people use some stuff that you put on them and have had success. But I go the all natural way :slight_smile: I keep about 1 peppermint shrimp per tank which I wouldn’t mind throwing one your way.

Use a needle with some distilled vinegar in it and inject it right in the middle of its mouth it won’t come back

99% of the time I chemically burn them out. I have some Red Terrazoanthus in a very small QT tank(~10 gallons) that had aptasia spawning off of them frequently. Too much of anything in a tank of that size on top of daily feedings and the chemistry could get way out of whack. I also needed to QT peppermint shrimp and it has worked out well. Haven’t seen any pests in a while. I will be removing the shrimp next week and giving it another 2 months in QT before I grab a small frag to keep in my display.

QT = Very wise.

I keep peppermint shrimp in the main tank, 3 or 4. Never seen 1 aiptasia ever. But… in the QT there is a hawk who will destroy any shrimp on sight. Unless anyone wants to buy or trade for a spotted falco hawk fish, that is a no go. So option 2…

Where can i get a syringe with a really small tip? These things are only 1/8" so far. Do I let it grow until I can actually do this easily? I just don’t want more of it so I would like to do it asap.
