Alemba3 Tank Tour

Huh, my girlfriends parents live in there, maybe I will be able to make it after all!

We will be there.

Unfortunately I am going to have to miss this event. Wife will be out and one of the kids needs to be picked up from work at 7:30.

Someone please take pictures and notes so we can get a nice tank write-up done for the front page.

CD, pick the kid up and then go over.

i will be attending with my mom.

If I wouldn’t have the 2 little ones in tow I would. But it’s not fair to Mike or anyone else for me to bring them.

i have no problem with it. I have some toys down the basement that might amuse them. Your call

Have been under the weather all week. Wouldn’t be fair to bring any unintended gifts. :frowning: Hope someone will take pics and perhaps I could see it some other time.

BTW Mike, how are you using the bio pellets? Vertex Media reactor? Some other type of reactor? What type of skimmer are you running these days?

Sorry to hear that Jon. I am using them in 2 GFO reactors and I switched to an octopus recirculating skimmer about one year ago. Let me know when you would like to come over and we can work something out.

did anyone go? i want pictures! lol

jonesing for the pics

Sorry I didn’t make it, but thanks for the invite Mike!!

Sorry i missed it, had to work 6 to 6 long day. Thank you for invite Mike, maybe next time.

Hey , you friday night party goers missed a great display tank! Just me and Brett and Marlene showed up. so we had Mike’s complete attention to ourselves. Such a treat. His tank is looking really good. lots of nice and some what rare corals growing very well and large. Spotless tank. and as always, He shared his latest tweaks on the equipment, setup and bio products that seem to be working super good for him.

Thanks for the frags Mike. I got them plugged and they are looking good. I replace the right side HQI today with a new icecap 10K just to see the difference. it is much brighter , and yellower than the 20K reeflux i have been using a few months on that side. just want to see if the growth rate picks up. and will get a new Phoenix 14K for over the frags next week. that should really get them growing. my old bulb is over a year old. looks really dim compared to the new 10K. When i get some colorful frags growing, i will be sure to return the favor to you Mike. thanks again. Now you got me thinking of a new , bigger tank too.

WHEN KEN THINKS, LOOK OUT!! what bigger? a thousand gallon? didn’t anybody take any pictures? i was busy losing at poker, or i’d have been there.

ken dosn’t have a camera and i figured someone would be there with a much better camera then i. It really is a beautiful tank.

No cameras, no pics. you had to be there or be square. Yous guys really missed out.

sounds like it would make a good ‘tank of the month’ article…???

sorry guys,

I actually have a nice Nikon D500 SLR but can not figure how to get the white balance figured out so the colors of the corals come out. I was hoping that someone would come that had camera experience to give me a few pointers. If someone can help I would be more then happy to post pics. Thanks for all of the kind words from those who came.

Hi Mike here is a great tutorial: How to Set White Balance
Basically you have few ways of doing it. Best and most accurate way is of course is more expensive, you purchase expodisc (http://www.expoimaging.com/product-overview.php?cat_id=1&keywords=ExpoDisc) about $100 and follow online video tutorials on their site how to use it.

Second best, is in your cameras menu set it to shoot in RAW or (RAW/JPEG) and use nikon editing sw to adjust white balance on your monitor, very easy.
Third have someone to hold white paper(or gray card in photo world) and you take picture of white paper under your lights. Then in your cameras menu set white balance to use this last shot(white paper), thats it. You telling your camera that white is “white under your lights” and camera will adjust itself. ;D
