Alkalinity and SPS

What level of alkalinity is good for SPS? What levels do you guys with SPS keep it at?

I run mine high and my SPS do decent. By high I mean 12-15 dkh. I wouldn’t recommend running that high if you could avoid it.

Thanks. I’ve been having a couple corals bleach… :-(". I was just wondering because my alk is at 10.5 right now. I’m just going to do a water change…

10.5 should be fine wats everything else at

As of 3/21:
Cal-420
Mag-1500
Nitrates-5-10ppm
Ammonia-0
Nitrites-0
Alk-10.5

How about SG, ph, and phosphates (these can play a role in alk)

All of them might be fine…I think I found the cause for all of this. I have my halides on too long and I think it is burning the corals.

I try and keep my alk stable and between 8-9dkh. I think my sps show the best growth and colors when I stay in this range.

That’s very possible as its a 12 gallon tank so the lights will be brighter then in a 75 gallon

It’s not in the nano…it’s in the 37…

IRC that Halide isn’t very big. What kind of wattage does it put out? How far down are the SPS?

Mine wander from 7 to 9 DKH which i adjust with a buffer. acros seem to be doing super. but i also keep the PH above 8 with kalwasser dripped daily. I feel keeping the PH above 8 is more critical than a super high DKH. studies show lower PH produces slower coral growth.

Phosphates are said to hinder the corals ability to extract calcium from sea water and build carbonate structure. so near zero Phosphates are very important too.
