I just bought the Alkalinity test and it was off the chart to high.
I am using ESV B-Ionic and always put in the alk then the calcium and tested for calcuim not ALK. I was dosing daily to get it to 400 calcium then I got the alk tester and it was way to high.
Other par
temp 80
salt 1.030
PH 8.4
Calcium 420
All the other stuff is lvery ow- phosphate, nitrate
i believe baking soda will bring alk down but not sure how much. so ask some of the other more knowledgable members. i am sure they will let you know exactly how to treat water. but ya a water change of 10 % is my answer to alot of my problems as this is done every week and half on my tanks.
first retest to make sure you are correct…then back off dosing the alk portion for a few days and see what happens, i always try to stop adding stuff to bring parameters down, rather than trying to add more or something else to get it correct. Either way you don’t want your alk to drop fast, a slow gradual decline is best.
Baking soda will raise alk, not lower it (its a carbonate).
Water change provided your source water and salt mix aren’t a problem with high alk will def. help. (RO/DI water?)
Is your salt a little high? I’m not sure, I keep at 1.025-1.026 for the simple fact its close to NSW and well thats what everyone shoots for.
Retest. Did the kit come with a standard? I was about 13% high on my readings when compared to the supplied standard (salifert)
What is your magnesium? Hold this and calcium up to par and the alk will drop in time. (See my post “High Alk”, worked for me). High calcium and magnesium can also cause alkalinity drop out (hence why its ‘so hard’ to maintain the ‘triangle’).

They are still charging $7.99 for the 50# bag of Dead sea works- Mag Pellets and I stopped by the dollar store for a 2lb carton of Epsom Salt[/quote]
Sweet, I should go grab a couple of bags.
It's time for me to drink beer and watch the EAGLES win
:SPIT)
Which EAGLES team is playing is question, the team that wins or the team that chokes.
