Angel Fish

Thoughts on putting more than one angel in the same tank. 90 gal

A long time ago I had a Eibli and a Coral Beauty in my 90, which both came out of one of my friend’s 75 gallon so they were used to being with each other.

Once I added them both to my tank, the Coral Beauty was fine but the Eibli became very aggressive and they would chase each other around off and on throughout the day. And although they were already both in a very established LPS dominated tank, the Eibli became “not reef safe” anymore and had to go.

If it were me, I wouldn’t do it since I’ve already been there and done that. However, depending on the exact type of angel you have and what kind you want to add, it MAY work - but be prepared to remove one if you need to.

I have a coral beauty. I was thinking of adding a flame. I also like the singapore.

These are some of my favorite fish. But, I’ve never had one that didn’t develop a taste for something in my tank, i.e. SPS, LPS, clam, etc. Aside from that they are very territorial, so you could have an additional problem. Here is a good read:

When I had my 180, i had as many as 6 at one time with 2 flames at a time but there was more territory then your 90 I have not had any in the 300 as of yet but like Jim said above a angle will eventually start picking at a corals or a clams that you don't want it too and by then its pretty difficult to get them back out.

So you have enough hiding places in your rock? If your doing a bonsai style, it’s probably not a good idea. The Singapore angle will get a lot bigger and might become more aggressive with age, but each fish has it’s own personality.

Yes I should have enough hiding places in my rock. whats bonsai style? Yeah I talked with someone yesterday that informed me that the singapore was a big angel. So if I did decide to add a second one I will make sure its another dwarf.

The bonsai aquascape has been gaining popularity recently, but most are in Japan. Here are some good examples:

The key features are unique column structures topped with coral and a cryptic zone underneath with a lot of emphasis on coral selection/placement. Since most of the rock work is off the sand, there aren’t a lot of hiding places and these tanks tend to be lightly stocked for their size.

yeah definitely not like that. I have about 100 lbs of rock stacked together. plenty of hiding spots.

here is a pic of it.

Nice! It reminds me a lot of my 110g…

Looks good!!! I want a bigger tank! When I first started this a little over a year ago I thought I would be happy with the 55 then I upgraded it to the 90 and now I want BIGGER!!!

Haha… welcome to salt water. I went from a 12g cube to a 110g and now I have the 180. I’m already working on the (soon to be) wife to add an empty 120 I have laying around to the system, but she says I have to get her a dog first :frowning:

OH NO!! Not a dog!! Dogs are more work than the reef tanks. I will eventually get me a bigger tank. Just have to figure out what size I want to go to.
