Anthias spawning or just aggression?

So my male and female pink spot Anthias fish look like they are fighting for domination or spawning not sure. I noticed they have nips in their bodies off and on. But tonight I started observing them fighting. They are nipping at each other and constantly locking jaws with each other. They lock for a few seconds then unlock stretch their jaws and lock up again. I noticed this for atleast 10 minutes and it appears the male is now hiding and the female is out and about in the tank.

I tried to research online and found a video of a possible pair getting ready to spawn and did not look like how these guys were going at it. I was about to take a video but it stopped to soon to grab the camera. Does this sound like spawning behavior or just their aggression? They are between 4-6" they are as big as my adult foxface.

from what ive read it sounds like agression. when they court a female they swim underneath her then come shooting up. i have seen anthias lock jaws, this is out of aggression tho.

That is what I more or less thought was going on. Ever since I got them I have noticed battle marks and it is only between them no one else has any marks. They chase all my fish except my foxface and clownfish. Mostly they chase the 2 chromis fish. This is not all the time but it is more then I like imo

the pink spot anthias are pretty but they are amoung the more aggressive anthias. when i get my anthias i am going with a mix of 3 or 4 species. dispair, threadfin, lyretail and Ignitus.

what size tank do you have?

I have a 75Gallon tank. that has a ton of rock and hiding places.

During the day I never see them fighting each other at all. Today they must be mad at each other haha the male is in the right corner and female took the left corner of the tank.
