Im looking for a reliable heater thats rated for at least 40g. I figured i would try here before shelling out the money for a new one.
What watt would you prefer I have 25,50,100,200,250,400 available (I believe.)
I just joined DRC so I thought I would post a few photos of my tanks. John from Premium Aquatics has told me great things about the club, and I look forward to making some new friends.
These are photos of my 39g cadlights which was setup in March 2008.
These are pics of my new 95g wave tank that I just set up in November.
fish-welcome to DRC
Awesome tanks man!
I was looking into the cadlights before i got my solana. Very nice tanks! Its nice to see someone else keeping an SPS dominant tank. I really like your purple cap and the red gonipora. How long have you had the gonipora for? Do you target feed it? Im still debating wether or not to get one. I like the 95g too. You dont see too many wave tanks. The rockwork is awesome, flows with the dimensions of the tank very well. What do you have planned for the 95g?

Thank you Longans_Daddy. I have had the goni since May. It seems to be doing really well, and doesn’t mind the clown hosting at all. The cadlights is a great tank. I love SPS and the 95g will probably be 70% sps. I plan on waiting at least another month before adding any just to be sure the params are good and stable. I will be adding a couple of tangs and a few wrasse, other than that I am still deciding.
I am glad I finally got around to joining DRC. It is great to see so many nice reef tanks in DE.
I forgot to add that I am a woman! Saint:)
Awesome tanks man!I apologize for the assumption. In my defense, 3 out of the 4 women on the board that i know of have either "chick", "babe", or "girl" as part of their username. You made it hard on us! >LOL<

Uh oh…now every single guy on the forum will flock to the this thread like…oh wait…this isnt Reef Central>LOL<
Im happy that you found us. The club is growing in leaps and bounds. We have a lot of cool things planned for the new year and its always nice to meet new faces, especially fellow SPS admirers. Are you going to be able to make it to the December meeting?
sweet tanks. looks very expensive. i should be setting up something bigger in the near future. cant wait to see the 95 should be really nice. are u using an asm. what size 3? what kind are u usin on the 39? brett
Nice job on the wire and controls routing and lay out. Very well organized. Say, you wouldn’t happen to be a Lady Electrician? If so, It shows…
ERRRRR, forgive me if this is a short post, I typed up something nice and then my browser crashed.
First of WELCOME! Glad you found us. You’re tanks look sweet. Very jealous. Can’t wait to see the new tank start to fill in. Will be nice looking at the before and after pictures in the future.
Is that a red Pocillopora? I’ve seen different shades of pink before, but never anything like yours. Does it look like that in person or is it just a camera trick?
Is that a Goniopora as well on the left side of the tank, left of the red one? It looks like an Alevopora with the large polyps, but there are more then 12 tentacle tips, so it must be another Goniopora?
Tell us about you’re feeding schedule. Spot feed, broad cast? What sort of items do you feed regularly?
BTW, do you have another tank?
Jon

I am a married woman so the single guys are out of luck lOl
I am not sure if I will be able to make the Dec. meeting. I have been swamped at work lately and with the holiday approaching it will be difficult. I will definitely try to get to one next year…
Do you have a thread with photos of your tanks?

Thanks bz350. Actually I bought the tank and stand used for a very good price. The LR was given to me by my neighbor that took his tank down over a year ago. I cooked the rock for over 6 weeks before seeding it with some from a 12g nano that I just took down, so the system has probably only cost me about half of what it could have. My philosophy when it comes to money is to spend it while you are here to enjoy it… LOL Really I just enjoy this hobby and I have learned over the years that buying quality equipment the first time saves you money in the long run.
The skimmer is an Octopus Extreme 200. I am very happy with it. I am using the pinwheel impeller and it is pulling out lots of good dry skimmate. I will post a picture of the foam head. I have used the skimmer that came with the cadlights in the past, but recently just stopped using it. It is too tempermental and I travel alot for my job which makes it hard for my husband that doesn’t know how to adjust it. I think the tank will do fine without it as I do regular weekly water changes.

Thanks kaptken. Actually I am an entomologist that just like to keep things neat and tidy. I still need to label all of the wires so that when I am out of town my husband will be able to figure everything out just in case. I am trying to design this tank so that it can run for at least 7 days on its own. My husband is pretty good at following instructions, but I want it to be as simple as possible.
One of the things I’ve always done with my tanks to keep the cables a little more organized it color coating the cables. I put little colored cable ties around the end of the cords right before the plugs.
Red- Heaters
Yellow- Lights
White- Power heads
Green- Filters
Blue- Pump
and so on.
Good thing about cable ties is they’ll stay where you put them unto you remove them with scissors even if you use them in salt water! Love my cable ties.

Thanks for the welcome Jon. The Pocillopora was sold to me as a pink, but I think it looks more reddish brown. The colors in the photo are pretty accurate, but not perfect. I am still trying to adjust the white balance to match them better. The green birdsnest is a much more vivid green in person.
There are three Goniopora in the tank. There is a small blue on the far left that was a frag from a larger piece that I got from Dr. Macs. The crocea is the one you sold me a couple of months ago. It has colored up nicely, and is growing very well.
The only other tank I have is a 12g nano cube that I am in the process of taking down. I had a bunch on non-photosynthetic corals in there, but no fish. It didn’t do so well with all of my traveling and kind of turned into a refugium more than anything else. The red flat worms were taking over more than I had realized.
I feed the fish twice a day with NL spectrum pellets, rods, and mysis. I feed the corals twice a week, 15 ml of phyto and 15ml of roti feast. I say feed the corals, but I look at it as mainly feeding the tank. There are so many little creatures that help keep the tank balanced and I think these thrive with the addition of the small foods. I do a 6 gallon water change every Sunday and wipe the glass down about twice a week. I use GFO and carbon in a filter bag and change it monthly. I experimented with a few of the prodibio supplements a while back, but with my schedule I decided keeping things simple is the best way to manage my tanks.
I think that about sums up my tanks. Do you have any photos of your tanks on the site?
Thanks for the invite Jon. I look forward to meeting everyone soon.
Neat and tidy is the way to go. most of us seem to raise electrical octopi!
Glad to hear the clam is doing well if you have any questions about it at all or have any trouble, like I said before, make a post here and I’m sure the top authority on clams will respond.
I missed this thread somehow as the forum had for some reason stopped notifying me of new threads. Andy told me about this thread and I knew it was you, but he said there wasn’t pics of a non-photosynthetic tank. I didn’t realize the nano you were taking down was that tank. You were the only other person I knew in the area running a tank like that. Now I’m all alone again, lol. Of course all I have currently is my sun corals, but have more currently in QT.
I don’t really have any photos of my tank currently on the site. The only pictures that I believe are on the site currently are here.(Like I said not photos of “my tankâ€ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ.) I used to have more on my website, but I stopped maintaining it a couple years ago and have just been posting random stuff. Actually last time I posted something was over a year ago, lol. I’ll post some pics when I get my new display tank up. Picking up the tank from work tomorrow!
I’m glad you made it on to the site. There are a lot of new hobbyist which could benefit from your shared experience and perhaps you’ll pick up some new ideas from some of us as well. We have a lot of exciting things going on in the next year which I can’t talk too much about at this point. The officers are hard at work planning a busy year.

I just did not have time to keep up with the non-photosynthetic corals. I moved them out of my 39g when I started keeping more sps because the heavy feedings were making it harder to keep nutrients as low as I wanted.
I am sure that I will learn alot from everyone here. I am always willing to share my experiences with anyone that wants to listen…
I am going to pick up my purple tang today also. The 95g is as ready as it can be, all params are where they should be.

So us married guys still have a reason to hope then? lOl Kidding of course.
Welcome to the club and to the boards.
Love the SPS. I’ve never been very good at keeping it so to see something that pretty is inspiring. can’t wait to see the 95 up and running. I looked at the wave tanks before but talked myself out of it, would be really cool to show off though. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the welcome. I like your sense of humor.
I wasn’t planning on getting a wave tank, but I got such a good deal on it I just couldn’t pass it up. The only problem now is that I am wanting quality stuff to go in it. I will be stocking this tank a little at a time.
I hope I get to come to the Dec. meeting. Has anyone posted directions yet?
