Is anyone using one of the new gyre pumps? I’m debating MP40 or XF130 for my tank. I haven’t seen any really good comparisons.
I’m currently waiting on my 150 to come in.
Check out the youtube videos for the XF150 to MP40 comparisons - the flow is significantly better / wider with the XF150 but the MP40 appears to be more programmable.
Chief complaint about the XF pumps is their noise level at higher speeds, while the MP40 are quieter. My solution is to get the larger 150 and not turn it up as high as I would have had to the 130.
Now I just have to wait for it to come in to see if my theory is right.
I’m also concerned about blowing sand around. It seems more people have trouble with that using the XF’s than with the MP’s. It also seems that if you want alternating flow, you really need two XFs. I think the same could be said for the MP’s though.
I thought the noise issue was fixed with the new mounts. Is there another sound problem?
I’ve always been a Tunze fan since they are reasonably quiet, never failed me, and have more more ability to control flow direction.
I have 2 older mp40s that make a little noise but nothing that noticeable. I will be buying an mp60qd in the near future so I’m surious to see how much quieter they are.
I’d love to be able to get away with one pump or maybe even two MP10s. The MP10 is listed only up to 9mm glass and mine is 10mm. I really don’t want to pay for two MP40s and run them both at 10%. My tank is 6 feet in front of my desk so I don’t want much (if any) noise.
New mp40 are quiet. And by noise I can barely hear them standing next to them. But if you listen for it you can notice it.
