to buy pumps? i want something like a mag 12 or something like 1200 gph. i dont feel like calling every fish store in the state to see if the carry pumps so i figured i would ask my fellow reefers if they know of a local store or semi local i can pick one up. i pulled the old pump out and took it apart and seen the problem! it was the shaft of the impeller was seperated from the casing. it was all one piece of plastic so i tried everything i could to fix it but no matter what i did the motor would turn but the impeller wouldn’t so i am now forced to purchase a new one. if anyone has something at least equivalent to a mag 9 i would be interested.
Probably too late, but no one “local” carriest them, but many of you’re LFS can order it in for you. Did you just do a major tank upgrade or drill more holes in your tank? I’d be shocked if you could pump that much water into a 90 and have it come back down with out more holes.
I just hooked up a mag 9 and water is trickling out of the line loc. No pressure what so ever.water is Hardly even coming out. So if a mag 9 is no where’s near enough water volume movement then a much larger one should do the trick.

That doesn’t sound right. How much head loss from the pump? I have a Mag9.5 pumping about 5.5 ft. straight up and have to dial the flow back with a T for the 1.5" drain to keep up.
Flexible or PVC return line? Any chance somethig is clogging the return line?
I have it hooked to a flexible line from home depot to a 12 in piece of pvc then the bulkhead on the bottom of the tank.so maybe 2ft of head. Its a mag 7 I just looked

The pipe after the bulkhead goes up the overflow to a 90 degree elbow then splits to a y loc line. The pump is mounted in sump. Could it be that the hose coming off the pump is just a 1/2 inch hose then goes into a 1 1/2 pipe
absolutely. anytime you use piping large than output of the pump your going to lose pressure. i think there is more to it though becuase it would still be moving a similar volume of water.
Agreed. First off try to slim the pipe down. No reason at all to have that huge pipe connected to it after going through a little tube. Sounds fishy still though. I suppose it could also depend on what you define a “trickle as”. Is it possible for you to put a 1g milk jug up there and see how fast it fills it and let us know?(Perhaps have you’re wife or one of the kids time it for you to make it easier.)
I bought a Mag 9.5 at DPA tonight for $106 I think. I believe it was the biggest and last one they had. They did have smaller pumps up left front though.
The length of pipe after the bulkhead to the y locline is whatever the standar height of a 90g which my guess would be 36 inches. So I would guess I have at most 5 ft of head from pump to locline
I would definitely think that the change from the 1/2" to the 1.5" is causing a significant loss of pressure as well as the head loss at 5’. But I still think you should be getting a decent amount of flow out of a Mag7.
Any algae built up on the flexible line? Have you checked the pipe inside the overflow for critters? Snails have a funny way of finding themselves in to weird places.
