Attaching frag plugs

I thought this would be a good time to post this because members just bought frags from the PEA trip. Been using this product for years now and haven’t had any problems with it in my tank. Just thinking some members may want to try it.
I get it from Lowes for $6 a stick. When using make sure not to let it touch the frag as the putty will heat up to set.

Just to clarify. Not put the putty to the frag, but put the frag plug to the putty then to the rock or other surface. Correct?

Yes that is correct A

This real easy to do, cut a piece of putty off stick, roll in fingers until light grey color, apply putty to frag plug and attach to surface. I like to cut off the stem of the frag plug, if I am going to place on a flat surface. You can also leave the frag plug intact and attach it to the side of a rock.

Sometimes Pictures speak louder than words…

Does this stuff work better than Aquamend? Reason I ask is that I usually need to use some super glue with the Aquamend to get it to stick under water.

Been using the same stuff as well. Works great. I like to as a drop of superglue gel between plug and putty to help keep it in place till the putty sets up.

That is the same 2 part epoxi that you can that is advertise online or stores.

Will add if you have a couple frags not usually a problem but if you do a lot of frags your skimmer at least mine does will go crazy.

When Julian Sprung did his presentation with the epoxy he said after mixing it and putting it in the tank push the plug into it and make the form an then pull the frag back out let the epoxy cure then super glue the plug onto it. Makes a much more secure mount

That’s what I’ve usually done in the past like everyone else, I just was curious if this stuff was “stickier” underwater.

Oh yeah - Agreed with the skimmer.

Haven’t tried this stuff yet. Does it stink? Boston aquafarms epoxy smelled terrible. Worked well but the odor… :~S

Scott that epoxy they have looks to be the same just in there package . The one John put up smells the same as the Julian Sprung colored epoxy

The trick for getting the boston aqua farms 2 part to stick is to pop it in the microwave for a few seconds.

What about Zoanthids? I have some on my frag rack that I would like to scrape off and put on a plug. Can you use the Super Glue Gel on the bottom of the Zoo? I could try and have them attach by themselves but they would probably just float away.

Yes, you can use the glue to attach zoos to the plug. Just make sure you place the zoos right side up. ::thumbsup::
