Automated Glass Cleaning

Just saw this article and video over at reefbuilders.com

It’s pretty cool and I’d love to have it on my tank… BUT…I bet this thing is going to be obnoxiously expensive. If they sold it for $100, I’d buy it without thinking about it. If they sold it for <$300 I’d plan to buy it at some point. My guess though is that they’re going to come in closer to the $1k mark.

When the RoboSnail came out, I thought that would slowly pick up steam, but I don’t think I’ve seen a single one on a tank.

I don’t think if want that big contraption on my tank . Think it’s just as easy doing it by hand and that way I can make sure there is no sand or grit under the cleaner

If its home location was the back of the tank or behind an overflow, I wouldn’t mind it. I tend to leave my mag cleaner in the back corner anyhow. It seems to me like they’ve way overdone some of the elements of it and it could be scaled back substantially.

I’ve always felt that the scrubbers were designed wrong that they should have protection from picking up sand. I hear what you’re saying though and I think that’s a big reason RoboSnail never really took off.

Ehh… it seems okay at best. I just hate the 2 sets of rails on the tank. I don’t think this is going to go anywhere, but its motivating me to start developing something better.

I think the rails are overkill as well. The magnet (and gravity) provides the leverage you need to keep the thing against the tank. You could get away with a single rail on the top edge (or no rail for a rimless). The bottom of the vertical track section could ride on the edge of the stand if needed.
