Can anyone give me some good info on backup generators I have just about no idea about them and might wanna get one in the future so some good info would be apprecited
Add up all your equipment power draw in watts and that will tell you what size generator you need. If your tank requires A/C in the summer to stay cool, be sure to add a window A/C unit into your calcs.
Cool thanks for that info but dose anyone know of anything a little smaller grade then that .

?? I’m not quite sure what your asking. Honda makes some of the best generators. You can get a used one relatively cheap at the New Castle Swap meet Fri.-Sun. at the New Castle Farmers Market on the corner of Rt.273 and Rt.13.
If you want to generate the whole house, what kaptken said is the way to go and very expensive. However, you can getaway with a smaller Honda generator type if you just want your fish tank to stay running or maybe smaller appliances. Of course run the generator out side with long extension cord running into the house.
Sorry I asked that the same time as you Bryant . And my comment came after yours
You can’t run the generator inside? And what about the ones they sell at like best buy for like computers to reboot? I am just a kid so of course I can’t buy a generator for my house as its not even my house and I might not be living there anymore soon anyway. But it’s nice to know for a later reference . I really just wanna make sure there’s just a little somthig closeby to keep my tank running.

There is a difference between generators and backup universal power supplies. Generators burn fossil fuels to generate power UPS’s are basically big batteries. UPS can be used to power an airpump, but aren’t capable of running the whole tank for a day or longger unless you chain together several car batteries. Generators will generate power as long as there is gas in the tank.
So tell me more about these generators and how they work ect.
For low tech i use something like this.
A deep cycle battery

plus an inverter

Cool
Ken, any idea how long a deep cycle battery lasts on a tank ( just circulation)? I never thought of using that before. I guess you could use your car with a power inverter as a generator. Its not very efficent but you would just need to buy a big enough inverter and run an extension cord, right? Anyone else done this?
well, as you draw amps from a battery, the voltage will slowly drop. most inverters have a cut out at 10.5 VDC. so it stops. I sorta figured drawing 800 watts an hour to run the basic circ pump, heater and half the lights, a battery charge may last 8 - 10 hours or so. then you just recharge it.
Here you go Scott, complement of RC.
