bad water

so i guess i ended up grinding up some phosephate midea and my water turened a pee yellow. i got some 50 micron sheet to fliter it out. anything else i can use. it looks to be working really well, past hr. the water is 100x cleaner.

im also running some carbon and finally put a hob fuge on it. i think ill be fine but just want to make soure. thanks brett.

whats your phosphate reading?

Do you mean GFO flushed out of a too large a micron bag and turned the water orange? yup a fine micron filter will pick up what is still floating around in the water. the rest will settle to the bottom, and everywhere, and gradually turn black. but be stable and not release the phosphate it absorbed. no problem. happens all the time. Its just a form of rust. a little iron might be good for the fuge.

Need to be more specific again Brett. All I can picture is you placing the media into the tank in a bag and crushing it with your bare hands… Are you using a reactor or a media bag?(If a media bag where is it places) I know that in the instructions they say too much flow through the media will grind the particles into smaller pieces, but are you positive that is what happened? Did the yellow water occur instantly when you added the media to your tank or did you discover the yellow water 30 minutes or hours later?

As Ken said I don’t believe your animals are in any immediate danger especially if the water is no longer noticeably tinted.

Would be good to make your water clear again, but it would be better to learn from a mistake.

Hope all is well,
Jon

the water is crystle clear and everthing is perfectly fine with the exception of a colt.

i use a midea bag in my hod filter. i was out of pads so had to customise. i have a reactor but i have to sell some rock to make it work(would have to seriously mod, lol).

the bag got ground up in the propeller and a fine dust was made but everthing looks so much better.
