Yes, they are suffering from over fishing and capture in the wild. they have a small area they are native to and don’t migrate very far at all.
But i seem to have a new spawning pair. I lost the two old parents that used to breed in the tank. One got stuck one night in the purple monti digi forest and died. the other shortly thereafter. but two of their offspring seem to have matched up lately. so here they go again. apparently, according to the article, soon to become boot leg breeders.
thats great!! Hope they do good!!! Cant wait to see the babies
That’s awesome ken
Unfortunately, if this ban goes through even sales of aquacultured fish will be banned. It’s a sad day.
two of the older offspring have hooked up, but unfortunately, after bonding, they seem to have killed off the two younger juvenile cardianals to protect their turf. so its not a good idea to have a bunch of them. that happened with their parents too. while trying to make a pair, adding a third would always result in one getting offed. they just like their quiet space, alone, per pair. so for now they seem to be trying to hatch eggs. but Dad hasnt carried the last couple tries to hatching yet. its a learning experience. He has to carry the eggs in his mouth for 21-26 days until they hatch, then hold the fry a couple more days in his mouth while they gain strength eating their old egg sacks. then he releases them one night after dark.
the fry have to scatter and hide, because then they become prey for either parent too. they will eat them. short memory. no boomerang kids allowed to live in the basement, I guess.
