At the frag swap i got a blue tort, red planet, and bird of paradise from rigle they all looked good. I qt’d and put them on my frag rack under about 100-150 par. the tort and planet started to lighten in color slightly i put them under the higher lighting and they seem to be bleaching. I dipped them in coral rx and replaced them. I now notice the blue tort polyps are out on the shaded side the side being hit with light has the polyps retracted. Any suggestions what i can do. Oh the rp had polyps out all the time now it puts them out at night only. the b.o.p is doing fine
I had a blue tort and red planet from rigle also. I did lose them but due to my own faults. I noticed though after a week the red planet polyps were not extending as much but the blue tort was doing great until my salinity issue took them out. I fragged them and put them in another tank with no luck I also dipped them which did not help.
Wish you the best of luck. Dan’s stuff is really nice when it is doing well.
Sorry to hear that Tim. I know that the RP and BT are low to med light loving acros. I think the best thing that you can do now is leave it on your frag rack and leave it alone till you see that its healthy and encrusting before you move it to other location.
I guess no RP frag anytime soon. :-("
I have had similar problems with reds from both Dan and Sanjay. i had had a RP from dan for over a year, it started out nice and red when i got it, but my shallow frag tank was too bright. it bleached to brown for about a year. i lost it when i put it in the new frag tank with my new LED light before the dang tank cycled. had a big ammonium and nitrite spike that wiped em out bwefore i noticed. otherwise, i talked with dan before that, and lower light is required to keep em red. same with a red table acro i got from sanjay 2 years ago. it was deep red for a while and been light green ever since. i still have that one. i didnt move itto the uncycled tank. thankfully.
Dunk you have LEDs dont you? there may be a spectrum and or PAR problem too. Dans 180 is old school lighing . 3 x 250W MH and a pair of VHO actinics. and the MHs are at least a foot above the water. he keeps it pretty stable. and usually has nice based frags.
heres a sanjay plot of dans MH radium 20K lamps.
Werent your par readings pretty high?
They’re not gone just looking grim. Ken my par was higher before I switched my vho’s I had 250-260 par on the sand now it’s about 200. I had a 10k, a 454 an act. White and 5 actinics. Along with the LEDs now I have 6 actinics and 2 act. Whites. The frag rack has LEDs in a section but these were under vho only about 100-150 par. But I put them under the LEDs. And the sides getting the light seem to be bleaching. I moved one and will move the other to try to bring em back
now that i think of it, when i measured PAR in the frag tank, it was about 190-200 on the sand where the RP frag was turning brown for a year. thats under Phoenix 150w 14K HQIs and a pair of T5 actinics. the red table from Sanjay is still there, lookking bright green the past year or so. but my blue tort is looking good and growing well now. along with other blue frags. the only red doing good is Johns setosa. bright. anything else red has faded. oh but the pink milli is fine also. the par is about 230 at the top of the blue tort. its about 4 inches high.
