booster pump for rodi

useful? brands? personal experience? we’re tired of wasting so much water, about 5 waste:1 pure is what we now get. do these pumps [Aquatec 8800 is the only one i know of] reduce waste water? hard to hook up? are they automatically on when the rodi is working or is it manually operated.? any info would be appreciated.

I have been using one on my R/O unit for 2.5 yrs now. I don’t believe they cut down on the waste water. Easy to install with John Guest fittings and comes on automatically when my unit turns itself on. The only reason I am using it is because my well water pressure was very low. The pump raised it from @25 PSI to 60 or better PSI.

john, have you actually measured the difference in waste water? or is it just a feeling. every thread/review i read about says there’s a great reduction.

thanks. see ya sunday early afternoon. btw, what’s yr 1st name? paul, if you don’t know mine.

Paul looked hard into this called up and spoke with all the vendors and no one could sell me on it. If you lived in an area of the country, or part of the world where water was very precious and rare it may be justified. Or if you house was completely off the grid(solar panels) then it could be justified). Otherwise your electric usage will be increased enough that enough coal will be burnt to not justify it. Secondly your water bill will go down a couple pennies a year while your electric bill will increase something around $10 a year.

I crunched the numbers a couple years ago, but they are the same pump and haven’t gotten any more efficient and the water and electrical costs haven’t changed that much.

Paul here is the pump I use it dose not use any electric at all. and I am running about 55 psi in the house and with the pump getting it up to about 75 at the membrane on my RO hope this helps a little.

hey craig. thanks. wouldnt that need a transformer like the 8800? and they say “Ideal for membranes rated up to 50 GPD”. i have a 100 gpd membrane.

no you don’t need a transformer there is nothing on it that is electrical at all. you just use the wast water to make the pump work. here is the one for yours lol I just went on ebay fast to get a link didn’t see how big that one was. and this one is less money lol. If you need anything let me know I will help you out.

what about this:
the Permeate Pump forces product water into the storage tank, reducing membrane back pressure and maximizing available feed pressure.
i don’t have a storage tank

ether do i and i make 1 good water to every 2 bad

permeate pumps are passive, that run on the wasted discharge pressure and recycle a bunch of the waste flow and pressure back to the RO membrane for another pass. they increase the RO/WASTE ratio. More RO, less waste. they are generally used commercially for under sink drinking water units, to waste less water, but require a presurized RO tank for back pressure.

Industrial units use them because they save power on the pumps. they are good if you configure them correctly.

ken, criag, zona, sez he doesn’t have a storage tank. i’m confused. required or not needed??

Paul I think If I had the tank on it I would make more consistent psi but like I said I don’t I have 2 membranes on my ro system I can make 250 gal of water in 24 hours with 0 tds. if you want to use less water I would pick that pump up it will cut your waste in 1/2 and help you make water faster.
