Building a swing for the yard - want your ideas

I am going to Build a swing for the yard - want your ideas for what you like on the one you have for your kids or cool things that would have been awesome to have on a swing. I plan on building one since I can and save some green. I really hate that the ones available even from specialty shops limit the use weight to 115lbs-150lbs. If I build a swing i want it to be able to hold me and the kid swinging (over 200lbs)

That’s the ticket! Of course I will not have any yard left to cut

That pretty much sums up my answer… :think)

That world would be nice but I would be forced to buy the neighbor’s property behind my house and the 2 side lots to fit it.

I found this idea and it may be doable with a few additions:
I would add a sand box below the tower
I would install plumbing to make the slides water slides in the summer
One slide would need to be wide enough to allow me to go down
A rock wall added to the rear to allow additional access to slides

Did I miss something?

Looks nice and do-able. Does that spec a weight limit for the swings? Looks like a long stretch, wonder how much it will hold.

I’d say get a moon bounce and be done with it!

Wow thats awesome! I wish my dad would have made me cool toys like that!! But then again… he did buy us a pool… lol But thats awesome! Have fun making all that. Fyi they have big blow up slides you can run water threw but it doesnt have a swing on it.

As is it is designed to probably hold 150lbs like most od the others I have looked at.
I would prefer to use tubular steel to cover the 6 - 8 foot span. Hopefully I can find a piece to recycle and have some mounts welded on the ends.
I will probably not like the price if I can’t get a recycled piece of tubular steel so I will either sandwich 3/4 ply between 2 spans or lag bolt a steel plate on a 4x4

hay al i may be removing my kids swing set at end of summer due to my boys are getting older and i need space to build my large garage in near future. if i do take it down you are welcome to come get it for parts. i also mat want to sell the rocking eagle. also you can see the see saw in back ground it was a real easy dyi. i will keep you posted on removal.

That would be awesome since little man won’t be using the main unit till next year anyway.

I think I am going to combine ideas from 2 units. I like the rock wall and the climbing ladder from the one but the dual slide from the other. I am going to use a mix of pressure treated and ceder. In the areas with contact to the ground or where little hands wont be touching all the time I will save $$$ by using pressure treated. In areas where he will constantly have his hands on I will use ceder or composite decking material.
Couple design changes
Remove the cross brace at the ladder and make the cross brace at the slide removable. If I don’t I know I am going to knock myself out. By removing the cross brace I will have to add an extra brace to the railing to ensure stability.

A friend is going to bend 10 gauge stainless for my A frame support
Can you say “overkill”. He has it and its free so why not

You forgot Monkey bars.

if you make the long beam supporting the swings a 2 beam run with the monkey bars in between you’ll get the reinforcement benefit from the metal tubular bars as well as add something else for the kid to give his mother a heart attack on.

I was going to add them but every kid I know including myself rarely used the bottom of them; we all walked across the top.

I am in need of a retailer (online or brick and mortar) for carriage bolts. Anyone have a place for a good price?

Whats wrong with the local HD or Lowes or a neighborhood hardware store? they got em by the box. Or Shoney’s lumber yard. they used to sell nails and screws by the pound. not sure now. or how about something like this?
http://www.mcfeelys.com/category.aspx?cat=carriage-bolts&s_kwcid=carriage%20bolts|1461406951

you know, the post office has those flat rate shipping boxes. $14 up to 20 pounds as long as it fits in the box.

or how about the Thomas Directory for Carriage bolts in Delaware?
Click here: Carriage Bolts in Delaware (DE) on ThomasNet.com

Hey, You ever hear of GOOGLE? or My favorite search engine:

http://www.dogpile.com/

they give you the best from every other major search engine’s pile of ~~~stuff .

I was looking for about 50 bolts, washers, lock washers and nuts which at the depot would be $250. So far online I have it for about $150
I too have heard of the marvels of google but every now and then someone knows of a supplier that gets buried on google and has awesome quality and goods. (Sort of like the place you when you buy bulbs and ballasts)

Sorry I’m no help here. Hope you find something.

try family farm & tractor supply. they sell all nuts, washers, lags ect by the pound. you can choice the grade , length ect.

dang, the thomasnet search didnt come through. lets try again. it has some local suppliers.

I think that works.

Here is an example:
Home Depot 3/8 16 5" Hot dipped galvanized carriage bolt 1 -$1.86 25 - $39.57
McMaster-Carr 3/8 16 5" Hot Dipped Galvanized Carriage bolt 1 - NA 25 - $13.53
