Bye bye nitrates… (I hope)

I’ve been upgrading my water changing station (future post) with larger tanks. Yesterday I did my first large water change on the 180 to bring down my nitrates. Saltwater gets pumped from the garage into the tank — and I didn’t spill a drop (which surprised me)! I made sure the salinity, temp, and ph were the same in the source water.

Today everything looks healthy and happy. I’m hoping a few of these will help me get nitrates down to the 5-15 range.

Wash, rinse, repeated this process four times (250 gallons) and NO3 is around 15-20 ppm. I’m happy with where it is. Having the large container and the ability to pump water upstairs directly into the tank is huge.
