Let me know if there is other answers that you think should be included to the above question. Feel free to elaborate in a post.
Since I voted in the poll I thought I would mention my 2 favorite carbons :
Carbonit - by brightwell aquatics
Rowa carbon - by D&D enterprises
both are very clean and need little rinsing…
Missing “I run carbon when I remember to add it or think it’s needed”
I don’t run carbon all of the time, but will occasionally add a bag or a sheet depending on what I perceive is going on in the tank. If the water is not as crystal clear as I would like I’ll add carbon. If something dies or I suspect chemical warfare has erupted I will use carbon, if I am cleaning out under the stand and I find a bag/bottle of carbon and I realize I haven’t run in a while I will run carbon.
craig the scientist dangel0. he’s my mr. wizard and bill nye all wrapped up into one
Haven’t really figured out why I don’t use it. slap-stick
Carbon is the only thing I run,but I run alot of it.
I run carbon to remove medicines, or if something goes wrong (like when my auto feeder dumped in way too many pellets once!). Typically I don’t use it based on the fact that if You don’t change it regularly, it can lead to problems, similar to any filter media.

True
I change mine once a month, how about everyone else??
Just about once a month typically, but since my system is still a high nutrient system and I’m working to bring it down I’m doing every couple of weeks.

that if You don't change it regularly, it can lead to problems, similar to any filter media+1 using a prefilter helps a lot but its just one more thing that needs maintenance. i tend to get lazy and just turn the flow off to the reactor until i feel like changing the media. ;D

Ditto. Steph hates coming into the kitchen and smelling that rotten egg sulfur smell when I finally get around to cleaning my reactors, lol.
like most, i too use a cup of carbon, but only change it when i get around to it every few months. But i also use a pouch of SeaChem’s Purigen, which does much the same work as carbon, but is renewable and reusable. ive used some pouches over and over again for a couple years.
