Went out to the supermarket @4:30pm tonight only to come back to a darken neighborhood and no electricity.
Delmarva Power-less strikes again. We had no power for 3.5 hours. Thank God I purchased a generator for the hurricane. It ran both tanks no problem and plenty of lights for the house. Breathing alot easier now. And it was only rainy and some wind, can’t even imagine how long we would be without power if we did get hit with a hurricane. The generator has already paid for itself.
Glad to hear all things are well, John. I know those things are great investment. Need to get one myself.
It must feel good to be prepared, John. I think you really need the backup more than most. your house and neighborhood are in a tall stand of trees which tend to lean on power lines when the wind blows. Im sure there would be no problem for a few hours, giving you time to get home and start your power plant up.
I now have a different backup power system from Walmart. a 12 volt marine deep cycle battery.

and a Digital DC to AC inverter.

So alls i have to do is keep the battery charged now and then, or on a trickle charger, and if the power goes out, bring it in the house, clip the inverter feeds onto it, and plug some power strips into the inverter to run pretty much everything on my 3 tank systems with half the lights turned off… I figure it will run 8-10 hours on a charge untill the battery drops to 10.5 volts, the inverter low voltage cut out. Then i can recharge the battery outside with some jumper cables from my car battery. and repeat.
It costs less, and runs quieter. just right for the tanks. Just another alternative if you cant keep a generator. it could run your puter too, to keep in touch with the DRC forum for updates.
Yup John, out where you live, the big genset is a good idea.
Just having the peace of mind that I will always be able to run my system and other appliances in my home is total satisfaction. The initial cost of the gen was a factor when I was thinking about first buying it, but now that I have used it and seen how quickly my tanks are up and running, is well worth it.
I like the battery backup idea that you employ for your tanks. Simple, easy to use. I have lived here for a little over 3 yrs. now and have lost power @ 5 or 6 times already. Delmarva power sucks. :~S
Great that you are prepared I have the same setup as ken. It can’t run a lot but enough I would like to have a genny(if you saw hall pass you get it lol). Funny you call them Delmarva powerless ha ha
