Centrally Meetings

I don’t understand why ONLY 17 members have taken the time to vote either A. How can a club improve, if the members do not precipitate in club activities, especially when all you have to do is click the mouse.

Does this mean that only 17 members actually use the website? I certainly hope that is not the case here. I know we have plenty of people who are registered members on the website that probably don’t come to the meetings for whatever reason, but here is a chance to express your opinion on having the meetings maybe closer to home.

My only consern is we have meetings down south any only a couple southern people show up like what happen before.

I dont have a problem with the drive in fact would look forward to having it at the fishbowl , maybe throw in a group buy when we have the meetings.

Looking forward to riding the bike in warmer weather be a nice ride. ::thumbsup::

i’d probably even go to a dover meet, just to say hi. or would that be bad for membership?[/quote]

Be good to have the old guy at the meetings again. I need someone to tease.

My only concern is that the club has a good turn out of people where it is now,it seems that the club has more members north of the canal then south. So if the club moves south I don’t think we will have the turn out due to the change in location.the school has everything we need, tables, space and almost always available.
I think if the location were to move there needs to be enough southern member interaction to warrant the move. Either that or have 2 different clubs, north and south chapters. Either way I live in Dover and work up north so it’s a mute point to me. I just don’t wanna see this group go down the flusher because it was moved.

Does this mean that you think some northern members will not want to make the drive down south. That is probably the same reason why southern members don’t go to the meetings now. This is the issue we have as a club.

I know when I drive up to a meeting, it takes me about the same time to get to Dover as to get to New Castle. So to me, Dover is pretty much the middle of Delaware. This may not be so, but driving time wise, that is the way it seems.

I too would not mind alternating north and south. We should evaluate the results to see if there is a increased in participation. Like anything, a little work may be needed to get new/old members to attend from the south. A topic for next meeting?

Can we post a small sign next to the club brochure at the fish bowl in dover informing those who may be interested in joining? The brochure is great but may turn some prospective members away when they see the meetings are too far for them. Maybe the sign can say something along the lines like : If enough people show interest we will have meeting right here at the fish bowl, see delreefclub.org for details.

Jason, we are not moving the meeting to Dover permenately. If this works out we will try to rotate the meeting every other month. Yes, right now we do have majority of our club member coming from the north and why is that? I would like to offer our club to potential club members whether they are coming from the north or the south. As I said before my drive here is not for convenience, but to be able to get southern potential members to join us. I think maybe once they know what we do as a club; they may want to attend the meeting all the time even when it being held in the north.

I will not do the meeting change unless I’m assured that there will be people at our meeting in Dover. Up stair at the Fish Bowl may not be as big as the school cafeteria, but there enough space for us to hold our meeting. Of course if there are more people than it can handle then I will work on getting a bigger place and I will work on getting tables and chairs.

I will and never thought of splitting the club in half and that’s not my intention here. My goal is to recruit more people into our club whether they are coming from the north or the south. I just want our club to grow with more people with more ideas, we can make our club more fun and enjoyable.
Here’s the latest on the poll.

I’m a northern member, yes - 11 (57.9%)
I’m a southern member, yes- 4 (21.1%)
I’m a northern member, no - 2 (10.5%)
I’m a southern member, no - 1 (5.3%)
I’m a non/possible member, yes - 1 (5.3%)
I’m a non/possible member, no - 0 (0%)

I’m working on that poster as we speak. Also, working on recruiting event with the Fish Bowl. Still haven’t make down to Seaford to the Pet Emporium yet. As soon as I get some time to get there I will.

ill just throw in my .02…
Its been a long while since ive been a paid member(in fact I probably only know a few of you on this board these days), so I voted as non member who would go to southern meetings.
I miss being involved with the club, but I now live in chestertown Md. between job, kids, commute, etc. its really impossible for me to go to the newcastle meetings. It would be much more feasible for me to meet up in Dover.
I didnt see what day of the week the southern meeting would be on. I would throw out there as well that weeknights are pretty tight for me and im sure many people are in the same boat. if the goal here is to increase membership participation, my suggestion would be to alternate off of monday nights. quite frankly if even if the meetings were in dover on a Monday night I would probably not go, or at least not regularly.

not trying to create headaches for anyone, but just wanted to throw out a couple of ideas…

Why not start another poll

What night of the week would you be more likely to attend a meeting?

This would be assuming nobody wants to give up their time on a weekend.

Can the current poll about Dover meetings be placed on the home page all the time it is active?

I can start another poll in another thread about days and time of the meeting. Not sure if I can incorporate into the same thread here. Maybe Frank or Craig can help me out with it.
