Anyone (Ken) know the source for cheap calcium chloride (ice melt?) and where to find it? Like to stick with my DIY chemistry.
Thanks,
Ian

Getting late to get any check the box hardware stores for it. i will look the next time I am at lowes/depot. If in a bind I have plenty
CHeck all the HDs, Lowes, Sears at U. Plaza. they might still have some C-FORCE, or PRESTONE DRIVEWAY HEAT, the two i have used. walmart already took their jugs off the shelf in the auto dept. setting up for spring yard stuff now. if not. wait a bit and pool stores will have Calcium Chloride pellets for pool spring tune ups. they use it to raise calcium in the water for pipe corrosion protection. same stuff. as long as it says just CaCl. not some mix of stuff.
or you can get the pure anhydrous CaCl pellets from
http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/
anytime but costs more than local snow melt.
Or what was i thinking? One of Our sponsors, Get Tanked carries all that good stuff too.

If you decide to order from them, let me know, i want to try some of their Borate suppliment and maybe some carbon.
Dare I say it???

i have a huge bag of ice melt leftover from this winter. feel free to grab it if u are ever around dover. (dunno if it’s what u need or not…) i have one, safer-than-salt. and one that i am pretty sure is calcium chloride.

… i am in dover. lOl
Hey fish guy, thanks but I’ll pass on that. I would tend to believe that those other salts (sodium/potassium) would make the mix a bit too alkali and raise the ph of the tank. Also they’ve only accounted for 75% of the mixture, whats the other 25?!? lol and no idea what toxicity the coloration chips might have.
Then again I could be wrong, not sure if folks have used that mixture.
I would agree with your surmise Ian.
No blendeds allowed. thats the wrong stuff.
Ian if you are stuck finding it I have about 20 lbs if needed
Ian, If you need some CaCl in a pinch i got a bunch of C-FORCE. but long term since you have a bunch of tanks, you need some bulk.
