Circulation pumps / Powerheads

So, I dont have the cheddar for the vortech’s and I’m thinking about the Hydor Coralia Evo series circulation pumps.

The MaxiJet 1200 I have in laminar flow does almost too well of a job. Unless I have it aimed just right, it slowly blows sand around until its heaped up into a pile and I can easily inspect my sump thru the now bare glass bottom of my tank. On the other hand, the area under the pump is obviously much more subdued. The powerhead mode is not as aggressive but I understand the necessity to make sure detritus is stirred up so it can be filtered out of the tank via skimmer/filter sock/ect…

Then, I see people who have like FOUR of the Evo powerhead 1400’s (1400gpm) in their 75g tank and dont understand how their corals stay attached to the substrate!

I’m thinking it might be better to get two 750’s (750gpm) mounted on each end of the tank, then one 1400 blasting one side of the tank. Agreed?

Two 1400’s to me just seems like way too much for me. I know they dont come close to the water turnover of the ocean but as it is now, my Xenia arent really “waving in the current” they look more like a palm tree in a hurricane!

Tank size?location of power head? Livestock?

90gal, Pump is on the opposite end of the HOB overflow aiming at the Overflow, 2 Chromis and an Onyx clown. The rest is a few beginner corals.

That hardly seems like enough flow to blow your gravel around unless it’s pointed towards the bottom. I have korilla mag 7 (2800gph)in a 65 and it doesnt blow the gravel around.what height is the pump? Does it have the standard droop so it kinda faces the bottom?have you tryed to reposition the ph?
