ClownfishSushi's 150 Gallon Build

Use bayer! Revive isn’t the best to use for pests and why 30 min? Follow directions, could be the reason this is happening. Is your brown jelly an algea of sorts? You can try pulling the frag and do a peroxide dip that should wipe out any bacteria or algea problem you might have on thos frags.

I think the “Brown Jello” is probably bacteria colonizing the decaying polyps. The results, not the cause. I agree with Jason about following dose rates and treatment durations per the instructions. Revive is more of an herbal cleansing fluid. does it have any restrictions for certain types of LPS?

Revive is supposed to be safe for just about everything. On the bottle I think it said the solution is good for up to 30 mins and I must have confused that with some bad information I found online about people dipping for 15-30 mins. I used a drip line from my tank and an airstone and was just acclimating the corals at the same time I was doing the dip.

I’ll try the Bayer next time. On the plus side, everything else is looking pretty happy.

I still need to buy a replacement SD card for my Nikon D3100. In the meantime, I tried taking some cell phone video to show how the tank is progressing.

Video was taken this morning with the natural sunlight pouring into the tank so you’re not going to see a whole lot of coral pop. I’ll take an updated video once I get my good camera up and running.

Lookin good Jason! I picked up 2 eco-gorgs as well. When your ready to frag, I’ll trade you a purple plume for a frag of the ribbon. We both got the purple candelabra, I can’t wait till that thing gets huge. Having a vertical structure really ties the aquascape together.

Everything is looking great!!! ::thumbsup::

I’m planning on building this next weekend…

Look like a good idea. Has Melev ever had any problems with the float switch hanging up with salt or carbonate deposits in either the on or off position? that’s a mighty small float. wouldn’t take much to hang it up.

There is a 2 float ATO that is used by many people. The bottom float allows top off water in when the level goes down and if that float gets stuck, the upper float shuts down the the top off water if the level of water rises.

Bryant was also warning against the use of floats all together so I may be looking at another option. In other news, I may have two new floats for sale. Lol

Avast marine sells a kit with switches that operate by air pressure. They seem a lot less likely to have issues.

This optical one?

That’s interesting. I don’t know how the sensor setup works exactly, but my guess is you’ll have to clean the wet side regularly. I suppose it might fail in the “no need to fill” state rather than “fill”, which is certainly preferable to me.

Seems pricy to me

This one might work too, but there is a wet side that will probably have to get cleaned once in a while, but NO FLOAT SWITCH!

this one? with the emergency float?[/quote]yes that looks like the one I have with the backup float and I bought the pump from them also

This one was also recommended:

I think between the two I’m inclinded to lean towards the Avast one because it would have a physical shutoff backup whereas the Hydor just sounds an alarm and doesn’t prevent the problem.

The only foolproof method that exists is one that involves a fixed volume of water that can be added to your tank. Any other can fail (and should be expected to). If you do your top offs from a 5g jug, for example, and you manually top that 5g jug up, you can use the cheapest ATO out there. This all assumes you have room for an extra 5g of water in your sump plus whatever will backflow in a power outage.
