ClownfishSushi's 150 Gallon Build

Looks like a nice clean set up and a perfect spot in the new house. ::thumbsup::

Nice Tank! Nice room! It all looks super sleek!

I ordered 50 lbs of pukani dry rock and 35 lbs of tonga shelf with base rock. I hope that’s enough to get two island structures going.

Thanks for the compliments.

The tank is making an optical illusion that is driving me a little nuts. It looks like it needs to be shifted 2" to the right to be centered but in actuality the tank is about 1/2" too far to the left. It’s all about perspective. Centering it on the window is more of a challenge than I thought it would be.

Well that was fast…

This will save me a lot of trips up and down the stairs!

Clean setup jason, looks great. I’ll have to get up there and check it out soon.

Definitely. I hope to have the tank filled by tomorrow night.

I need to find an adapter to fit the threaded output of the pondmaster to a 1" hose. I brought the pump and a small peice of hose with me to work. Going to run to Lowes on lunch and try to find an adapter or rig something to fit.

Should be 3/4"pvc threaded female fitting to a 3/4 barb×thread. I think I have if you can’t find it.

Cool. I wrote that down and I’ll bring it to Lowe’s at 4PM. I’ll make sure to do the dry fit in the store. Thanks!

I’m leaving in an hour for Lowe’s but I found this link for an adapter on That Fish Place’s site.

You should be able to get that at lowes. If not you need to do it the way I stated. Also check the lawn sprinkler area

yea think iv seen them in the well section also oh and by the way lookin good

I had to be a little creative based on what they had in stock but $1.81 later I’ve got what I need. Can’t wait to get home and see if this Mag 24 can handle the height with the slightly restricted return line.

Pump is working nicely! Video below.

The setup looks very professional, nice and clean. Really coming together. excellent work, keep the updates coming.

Thanks!

So I noticed that the Mag24 puts out some serious vibrations and I was a little nervous leaving it flat on the glass in the sump (not to mention it’s got a heck of a kick when it first gets powered on). I repurposed the 1" vinyl tubing that original came with the tank to make a nice base for the pump. I cut the tube into lengths the width of the pump chamber and now the pump is sitting 1" off the glass on a bed of soft vinyl tubing.

Tank is about 60% full and I’m hoping to have it completely filled up by tomorrow morning…

Just in time for Artesian to show up at 9am and install my water meter… MWA HAW HAW!!!

Freaking Reef Crystals.

The tank has been up and running for four days now and I’ve still got cloudy water.

To fill the tank, I mixed individual buckets of RODI water with eyeballed scoops of Reef Crystals that I knew would land me between 1.022 and 1.028. I figured I could fine tune once the tank was full. Each bucket only had about 10 mins of mixing time with a power head and a heater.

The tank was full and running on Thursday morning.

On Friday morning, I was disappointed to discover the tank was still cloudy but didn’t think anything of it. The sump read 1.024 and 72 degrees. I remembered that I had a Two Little Fishes media reactor lying around so I filled it halfway with carbon and added that to the sump.

On Saturday, the sump was crystal clear but the tank was still cloudy. The sump read 1.024 and 72 degrees.

On Sunday, the water was still cloudy. I got to thinking that maybe the heavier elements were trapped and suspended in the display. I added a 350gph pump to the display. That did seem to get some fine sediment off the bottom of the tank and into the water column.

This morning, the tank is still cloudy. I took the specific gravity reading from the display… 1.024. I’m not seeing any sediment or fine particles floating in the water.

I’m assuming I’m just going to wake up one morning and it will be crystal clear. Just disappointed that it’s been four days of this.

Jason whats the temp now on the tank ?

I found in my water changes barrel if the temp is low its pretty cloudy but if I bring the temp up 77-78 degrees it will clear pretty quick.

I agree with bill, just raise the temp up

Temp in the display was 74 degrees.

I added two more heaters to the display and turned the temperature on all four heaters to 80 degrees.

I’ll let you know the tank temp again in a few hours.

Jason, afterwards when the temp hits 80, check the salinity again, it will be different
