If you contact the owner of DE poker room off of limestone rd he might be able to help with the fund-raising. that’s their loophole to allow play, and i seriously don’t think they would reject any NPO or club. i’ve seen fraternities host nights there why not a reef club.
shawn, at meetings are we making money, or losing money. The raffle last time, there was over 100 tickets. While this is a little more than usual thanks to someone lol, but thats still 400+ dollars. Does that cover the cost for food and raffles. And does the club have like a monthly expense report where common members can see the growth in the account, and what we currently have stored away.
You are correct. The raffle this month was by far the best ever and did bring in a little over $400. If things continue at this pace we should be able to do some really cool things this year. As of right now the clubs finances are not transparent to our membership and i dont think this will change anytime soon by if it every became an issue we could look into it.
Hey a texas holdem tourament with about 5 blackjack tables shoot it can be done we are non-profit a licence is cheapI dont see this happening any time soon for oh so many reasons but i never say never ;D
Back to the topic at hand. The rental period has been officially extended to 7 full days for the same rental fee. If you have any questions regarding the rental policy you can contact Marty or Myself and we can email you a copy of the rental contract and policy.
let me be the first to rent it, or whatever number i am. any chance of getting it this weekend? anytime is fine except for fri and sat night.
you need the rental fee and a check, right?
pm sent
Shawn, good evening! As a new member to the DRC, I wanted to share my thoughts around this topic. First off, as a relatively new reefer, I am not familiar with all the uses of various pieces of equipment. Additionally, I couldn’t tell you what the club has available, beyond the drill press from our meeting the other night. Perhaps we could:
- Create a Library tab within the website with pictures and descriptions of the items available for member use.
- Provide guidelines to rental fees and use of equipment.
Another tool that could potentially prove useful would be a Survey Monkey, that would enable the club to develop an online questionnaire for members to provide feedback on what is going well, and what could be improved or is needed.
Rob
Perhaps you could buy some of the more popular books as part of the program? Just a though on what might get used the most by new and old members (plus they are relativley cheap compared to some of the equipment)

FYI We have an accountant handling the books. Marty
I also wanted to agree with 1st8Eer Reefer. We already have a library tab so it would be quick to make the page to describe the items and fees. If you send me the rates and fee I could make the page.
Currently we have a par meter, Drill press? and I also have a tds meter I gave to the club but still have to deliver it.
My take (not having a current tank).
Fee: $30 seems a bit high for the average member. While it would cost $300 to buy the item, after 10 rentals the item is paid for. I understand this allows for additional equipment purchases at a faster rate it would be nicer at say $15 and then it will pay for itself in 20 rentals.
Why not raffle the rental at the next meeting? The winner would need to leave the security deposit but this would get the item out to the club and get (as Jon stated) results posted for people to compare.
5-7 days seems to be a better time frame to ensure the average user can use the item, maybe make a few changes (placement of corals) test again and get it back. Could we possibly have 2 rates? $15 for 3 days $30 for 7 days.
Longer time is better as well because some new bulbs will put out crazy large amount of par in the first couple hours of running. If you want to test your old bulbs and then test your new bulbs you might want to test them right away and then a couple days later. Glad the officers decided to change it. The system works!

Im not sure where this came from. If is said $30 somewhere then it was a mistake and i apologize. The fee is, and always has been 5%. When rounded down that makes $15 for the PAR meter which is what it has been the entire time. The only change has been the rental period which is now $15 for one week.
Could we possibly have 2 rates? $15 for 3 days $30 for 7 days.Thats exactly what it was! >LOL<
If anyone would like a copy of the rental agreement and/or policy please email me and i will forward you a copy.
Perhaps you could buy some of the more popular books as part of the program? This is exactly what was spelled out by Marty at the meeting. All proceeds from the program will go directly into three things: new equipment, equipment maintenance, and books for a library. I know you weren’t there Bellamy lol My point is simply that it’s an awesome idea and one that Marty already thought of. Great minds think alike!
Rob and Al – Great points with the online aspects. I agree with both of you. The ground work on a new site has been started and I plan to build something very similar to what you both have suggested. Unfortunately, there are just not enough hours in the day or volunteers to help with things. At this point I would be thrilled if we could overhaul the site before my term is over.
Jon and Al – I agree with both of you in regards to members results. I do feel that once members begin to utilize this meter to its full extent and publish their results that demand for the meter will increase. One thing that ive envisioned for the club(placed so far on the backburner that it wont likely see the light of day!) is a club coral database. The majority of our members have corals belonging to other members. It would be amazing to track these corals over their lifetime. In example, imagine we started with a frag of “magic zoos†that member A purchased from a vendor. Once member A begins to propagate the corals he could enter it into the database. We would include simple facts like water parameters, type of lighting, placement, a picture, and PAR. Anyone that received a frag would have a pretty good idea for how to take care of it and could later update the database. It would be very cool to see how the coral adapts and morphs to different environments. The amount of data and usefulness of such a project is almost limitless but could only be done one way. Any half assed attempt would be worse than not doing it at all IMO.
I want to thank everyone for the feedback.
It would take me about the whole week to figure out how to use it. I had to look it up… So, did you do a meeting on this? the bennies? show a tank , and unit in action? (newbie here)… :SURRENDER
It would take me about the whole week to figure out how to use it.
I hope not. It might take you a week to figure out what PAR is and why its important but will take you less than 10 minutes to figure out how to use the meter.
So, did you do a meeting on this?
yes we did.
the bennies?
???
Bennies… sorry, Benifits.
I had to google PAR… Still got 6 days left of the week to figure it out.
ah gotcha!!
yes, the benefits are that you dont have to pay $350 to find out how much PAR your bulbs produce! ;D
