are there any controalers or digtal testers that test for all the imprtant thing like ph cal mag nit ect and does any wone know how accurate they work useing the test tubes is a majior pain there muat be a better way
I know there are digital meters for PH, calcium (pinpoint), phosphate (hanna), and I THINK Hanna is coming out with some others.
reefkeeper can do orp, i believe, in add to ph, temp.
Reefkeeper can do temp, orp, ph, salinity.
If I can make a suggestion though, go with a different controller.
I’ve had nothing but problems with my reefkeeper and their customer service is horrible. My salinity probe was doa and took a year to get a refund. They didn’t have any salinity probes to replace with and after a long time finally started to issue refunds.
My SL2 module (that the ph probe and salinity probe connect to) goes haywire from time to time and needs restarting. This wouldn’t be a problem except my auto top off runs through it as well. When it goes haywire my tank won’t top off meaning I have to check it daily. If I go on vacation I have to get someone to pay attention to it and restart as needed.
If I was going to do the whole controller thing again I would go with an Apex.
rk can’t do salinity. probes not working yet!
Same here, nothing but problems with DA(temp/ph/orp/salinity)probes. Nothing works out of the box, you have to upgrade/downgrade/upload/reload/recalibrate etc., just go to DA support forum and look at number of problem posts. I wouldn’t buy it again.
Apex controllers seems to be the way to go.

It can do salinity, if you got a working probe a long time ago…
I got one of the faulty ones, but after a year i got my money back for it.
When the next probe dies, or the system completely shuts down I’m going apex.
squarebox, throw away your chemical pH test kit isn’t worth anything at all. You will need to use chemicals to test Ca, Mg, and Alk, but most of the other important ones you can get digital. If you have a million dollars to drop I’ll build a fully automated tester for you, but if you aren’t looking to drop that much dough your going to need to use some chemical test kits.(or hire someone to do them for you)
I love my Apex.
Some options with the Apex include: Temp, pH, salinity, ORP, Oxygen(over $620 I believe), float sensors(ATO), water bugs(water leaked on floor), remote buttons for feed timers, control Vortex, control AI LEDs…
Pretty much all of the above are the important ones that are likely to swing quickly.(unless you manually quickly dump some chemical in you shouldn’t have) Once you get a calcium reactor and a kalk reactor hooked up you won’t have to test things as often.(If you start to look a prices and think you’ll never sink that much money into it then you have chosen to put the manual labor into it and you can understand why no one has built a million dollar digital tester that does it all)
I have a pretty basic set up now, but working on upgrading. Neptune isn’t perfect either(one little piece of equipment they sell is a POS, but can be replaced with DIYS), but it is a world of difference. Customer support is crazy awesome and so is the network of Neptune lovers. The devoted hobbyist often times switch, so you’ll find most the die hard reefers in the Neptune networks.
