Skimmers vs Scrubbers
Pros? Cons? Opinions? Recommendations?
Neither! Haha. I turned my skimmer off to leave some nutrients for my zoas.
I’m a skimmer guy myself, Scrubber seem like to much work and if it does go south on you it could foul a tank.
This is a 2 sided question. They both work very well. I think that algea scrubber can work too well sometimes. I had 1 running and it started to starve out my refugium. I think if you have a nutrient problem the scrubber will get it under control much faster then skimming or wc.
Now a skimmer is a great way to maintain and keep the normal conditions of the tank normal. So if the skimmer is sized for the tank and bio load it will/should do whats expected of it.
Also skimmers can cost a small fortune depending on the size of your system. Algea scrubbers can be made for under 50$ and you would problly have better results with he scrubber.

What does this say about the effectiveness of scrubbers vs fuges?
Scrubbers all the way.
