Cool video

Here is a video of an instilation not too far from here in the middle of Wilmington. You have to see the lights installed on this thing near the end of the video. All I can say is wow.

Armco Aquatics install Video, “not just another install”

Very kool, 10 plus hours, long day and no leaks  Is this the video that they where talking about at the meeting?

Yup.

Is it because they use the same water, LR, and sand that they didn’t have to worry about cycling?

Yes and no. It is because they used the same water and rock that this tank was less likely to experience a higher then normal cycle, but it is possible the tank would experience a higher then normal cycle. You’ll notice in the clip that video was shown next day. Few if any people in the world have maintenance people come by daily to check on tanks in offices. Once a major transition like this is undertaken it is always important to keep a close eye on the aquarium. (Note the tank is always, “cycling”; the nitrogen cycle never stops, but by cycle we are referring to a higher then normal cycle in which the toxic forms of Nitrogen, namely Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate, are at high enough levels to cause damage to the tanks inhabitants.)

One other important thing that was done is they did not use all of the same sand. Often times in reef tank there is a good deal of settling of detritus and waste in the substrate. Many of the reasons people have trouble with moving aquariums or doing an upgrade like this is due to the mixing of a sand bed. Similarly tanks have crashed just by the mixing of a sand bed alone by a fallen power head.(sometimes happens with deep sand beds) This can be prevented to a degree with good biological stirring. Animals such as Nassarius snails, conchs, and sand sifting stars can help.

At least that is how I understand things. Little of this is written as a scientific law, but my opinion of what is going on in these complex mini closed ecosystems.

Two thumbs up from me!! Looks like an Academy Award nominee for best cast and crew and theatrical Scenery!
