I was on a FB group page today and one of the topics was coral acclimation. Someone asked if everyone dripped acclimated their corals. A few people were saying not to acclimate them at all. Just dip them and put them in the tank.
So my question is how does everyone acclimate their corals?
Now, I just float the bag till the temperature equalizes then I take them out and let them slime up for a minute or two, then plop them in the tank on the bottom for the first couple of weeks, then try to move them up and place them where I want after that. The slime layer they produce is (IMO) sufficient to allow the corals to shed it by themselves and adjust to the conditions in the tank.
The only exceptions I make are with sponges and clams. I don’t expose them to the air at all.
I used to dip everything but I was having some issues with the dips being to harsh on a lot of different pieces, so I inspect them in the bag first to see if I need to do anything.
I also only like to trade with club members who I trust after seeing their systems first - or - I buy from LFS I trust.
+1 on the temp acclimate then putting it in the tank. Also getting it from a well known person. If from LFS I dip as well. Who knows where those things have been. Lol

Just a warning for the folks that dip corals - be careful using the Bayer Insecticide dip with smooth skinned SPS corals. I’ve lost some dipping them.[/quote]
Even at low or very low dosage? I read that it work very well for red bugs and AEFW(Acro Eating Flatworms). I’ve never have to use it (knock on wood) but, if I do I was planning on using the Bayer dip.
