I have a 20gT with a Coralife with a 65W True Actinic 03 and a 65W 10,000 Daylight compact. What kind of corals could I safely put into the tank? I currently have pulsing xenia (from Ellen), anthelia, and zoas. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
hey, IMO you can put mostly anything except Clams, and SPS corals. dont get me wrong the more light driven corals more to the top but are doing I think. I had that same light on my frag tank and kept everything from Blasto’s to xenia. and all did very good.
Thanks. What kind of light cycle did you find worked best with that light for the corals?
well considering it was a frag tank, i did 12 on 12 off. you might want to try anything from 9-12 hour and see how your coral responds
Most softies such as Yellow polys, leathers, Keyna Tree, zoas, mushrooms(including Ricordea), Clove Polyps, Anthalia, gorgonians, and so on.
If you keep your Ca, Mg, and Alk fairly stable most LPS would work as well. Duncans, Blastomusa, Euphyllia(hammer, torch, frog spawn, and so on), Candy Canes, Bubble coral, Pagoda Cup, brain corals, and so on.
You could probably do Monitpora Cap in the top of the tank if you water chemistry is stable.
Basically with the lights you have you have tons of possibilities, the most stable you keep your chemistry and the better you watch over it the more possibilities you’ll have. Search out for pretty colors, cool shapes, or textures or whatever. Find something you like and then research the individual coral to see how difficult they are. Avoid things with special needs such as your non-photosynthetic corals that require daily spot feeding and so on.
How deep is a 20T?
Ian,
It is about 16" deep. I have some room at various levels that I can fill in with some corals.
I don’t have experience with PCs, but I’d go with what the other guys have said, softies and LPS you should be fine, you could probably sneak some SPS in there kept up high.
